Meeting Glyn, Leila told him she could use her magic to control his curse, to study it, maybe even to find a cure. And she didn't lie, not exactly. She does keep his curse under control, and she's definitely studying it. Even finding a cure would be useful. But if she did discover one, well, Glyn is far too valuable as a research subject for her to ever reverse his condition.

Unbeknownst to Glyn, Leila has used samples of his blood and magic, mixed with her own, to produce a series of offspring. Some of these children do not carry Glyn's curse; Leila considers these failures, and quickly packs them off to lives elsewhere. She is far more interested in the little sprouts who do exhibit Glyn's condition. Some of them even have heavier forms of it than he does: more of their flesh is wood or vegetation, and they may exhibit other plant-like qualities, from photosynthesis to rooting. Some of them in fact seem to be complete plant-dragon hybrids, their two halves existing in harmony, subject to but not suffering from the curse.

Leila studies them while she can, but if she is to keep her side activities concealed from Glyn, she can't keep them around as they grow past infancy, so she sends them off to Xever to find new homes. Her preference is for them to end up with other researchers or, failing that, perhaps somewhere where they could spread the affliction? Not, of course, that Leila would ever wish pain and suffering on others -- after, she knows very well how unpleasant the curse can be, as she witnesses and helps Glyn live with it. But, well, more subjects would be interesting, wouldn't they?
