If there was anything that she was good at, it was how sharp her memory was. Despite her mother's misgivings, or the hurt that flashed in the older Skydancer's eyes whenever she mentioned the pearlcatcher who had laid down her life just so that she could have a chance of living however she wished, she embraced the life she was given. It never discouraged Devon, but it felt heavy on her heart all the same. Her brother was more quiet of them both, always kept to himself. Devon preferred it that way. That way she wouldn't be reminded of how coddled and lucky they were to escape with their lives.

"I really don't need to be reminded all the time," she told her brother, who kept his watchful gaze at her. "I could remember just fine, as if it happened yesterday." Perhaps that was what distinguished her from the other members of the lineage she had descended from, that she would nurse memories like closeted honey left alone too long.

But, nevertheless, Devon grew a care for the stories that circulated around one clan to the next, the variety of lineages that reigned over the sea, skies and the shadows, of those coiled around the flames. Often than not, she would find herself wandering through the Aetheatra Clan's library, where she also found the lorebook that contained most of her family's pasts, the creatures they encountered, the draughts, poisons and medicines they have concocted. All these she memorized with a sharp and clear mind, clearing her conscience of anything that might distract her. She is both Witchborne and Night Warrior in the first place.
She would not let anything else keep her down.
