Biography

The Slacker

"Yeah, I'm a Gen 2 Night Warrior. That makes me basically royalty," Gwydion says when pressed. It is a proud and noble heritage, rather famous around Sornieth... but Gwydion is careful to leave several things out when she explains her heritage to others. Like the fact that to be considered a fully-fledged Night Warrior, she would have to actually train for battle. Gwydion has no intention of ever training for battle. She'll dress the part, she'll claim the heritage, but anything that involves any actual work is a bridge too far for Gwydion.

She's a programmer. Hezom likes her work because it is clean and efficient, and it's usually done more or less on time. She's got a reasonable gift for future-sight, like most Water-flight dragons do, and Gwydion's seems laser-focused on how to go the furthest with the least amount of work. She does just barely enough work not to get reprimanded, bathes just often enough that people don't notice her hygiene, and pays just enough attention to her Charge that people don't view her as a failure of a Guardian.

Of course, that's fairly easy when one's Charge is shared by so many other Guardians. Gwydion lets her Sight warn her if Adaro is in any sort of trouble. Let the others fight. Gwydion isn't even super concerned with finding a mate.

It all gives Gwydion an excuse to lie in a sunbeam and snooze. If anyone asks, she's on lookout. Like most things in life, guarding her Charge is something Gwydion could take or leave. She likes the guy just fine, but she doesn't have to be friends with him, and he hates Guardians enough that she can do the most good by keeping her distance anyway.

She's helped Orion lead the others off on a wild goose chase a couple times when Adaro was in actual serious danger of a mental breakdown. Adaro has no respect for her lazy, indolent lifestyle, but he grudgingly likes her and her approach to guarding him. He's even grudgingly started to like her as a whole, which Gwydion thinks is hilarious. She teases Adaro about it, but she, Adaro, and Orion the Perfectly Normal Small Guardian have sort of become an odd trio of friends. It's even made her train just a little bit, if only by fighting off all the other Guardians.

What does she actually like? Long hours doing nothing, of course. Sushi and sweets, and anything fried or decadent; a large waistline is Gwydion's sign of a life well lived. She likes gossip, but getting directly involved drains too much of her precious energy. Deep philosophical talks where she can appear profound without having to think too hard. She's a good listener, although there are pretty good odds she's half-asleep and flat out ignoring her conversation partner. She likes being surrounded by plants, so long as they're hard to kill or she doesn't have to care for them. She's taken to learning Coatl, which turned out to be useful when the Banescales emerged.

Gwydion is living her best life, and nobody can tell her otherwise. She would never have thought that would ever include a child, but he motivates her to get off her duff and be a better person. Gwydion is a pretty lousy Guardian, but she's become a fantastic adoptive mother, much to the surprise of everyone. Her boy taught her Old Flameforgers' Tongue, and she taught him Draconic Common tongue. Gwydion doesn't get off her behind for anything except Atticus. Where he's concerned, there is nothing she wouldn't do. Having a Charge isn't important to her, but the little orphan that fell at her feet captured her heart completely.

(Some say that Atticus is Gwydion's true Charge. Saying it to Gwydion's face is a really good way to get smacked.)
