Balerion keeps to the edges of the Haven. Despite being Rhaenys's mate and left hand, he does not trust himself among the other dragons- and especially the young ones. His past actions still haunt him, after all. He did an evil thing, and was cursed. The red on his wings was once splattered blood of a weaker dragon, spilled in the haunted Hewn City, but his disproportionate retribution led a spirit to sentence him to wear her blood forevermore.

Now, he raises his children. He tends to the coral. He does his duty to his few loved ones, and everyone else- well, he doesn't trust himself around them, and the feeling is mutual. Even Laika is hard-pressed to find a virtue. But still, all are welcome at the Haven, regardless of their past- so here he stays.
