Biography
Charybdis
Possessed Hatchling Charybdis is a dragon possessed, a mysterious water spirit nestled safely in the body of a hatchling long dead. It is unclear if her origins are even that of a dragon, but her previous form was incorporeal. She came upon her vessel when she had ventured up the singer's brook, a small nocturne hatchling doomed to an early death, and decided to take the dead body as her own. The hatchling in question had been male, but Charybdis hadn't minded much, having no use for the body other than a vessel to interact with the world and transport herself. |
Her magic revitalized the hatchling's body and made it suitable for her to inhabit, but left it frozen in the state of a hatchling. She used the small nocturne body to swim across the channel between the reedcleft ascendent and the Starwood strand, and wandered aimlessly across the land until she hit water again. She swam upstream into the forest eventually came across Ismael, the older dragon grumpily greeting her and leading her to the main clan, dropping her off with a disdainful "this is probably yours" towards the matriarch Aragona. Charybdis was tentatively welcomed into the clan after Aragona ascertained her status as possessing the hatchling's body, and after hearing her story the large guardian welcomed her to stay as long as she needed.
She was greeted enthusiastically by Pearl, who believed she had found a kindred spirit, but after realising that their situations were in fact not the same, Charybdis was treated with a kind of cold disdain for a couple days before Pearl reverted back to her usual faux cheerful self. The two get along fairly well, but Pearl's innate bitterness toward her situation makes their relationship rather strained. Charybdis spends a fair amount of time with Plato, mostly because he is one of the only other individuals within the clan that willingly spends any extended period of time in or near water.
Although her vessel was born with the element of wind, Charybdis herself is unable to wield it, only able to use her own water magic. She now finds it harder to channel, however, and it takes much greater effort to summon any large amounts of magic from within her vessel, though it is still possible. She is always trying to entice other clanmembers to come "play with her" in the water, and even though her motives always seem to be fairly pure, her actions are regarded with some measure of suspicion due to her origins in the sea. Despite her innocent appearance, Charybdis is not a child, and should not be regarded as one.
