Head of Mavenlark's mobile guard, Tempest often scouts the outside of the clan in search of lost dergs, potential troublemakers, and natural disasters waiting to happen.

”Apologies if I appear startled. Traveling is supposed to do my nerves good, but...”

Uh-oh, looks like this seasoned ex-warrior wandered a little too far from their home lair (452562, Hyzenthlaay), and now they’re off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, we'd really appreciate it if you could just return them to their original home via the Crossroads, the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread here, or this rest hub, if you don’t want another traveler in return from the thread. You can also adopt them permanently if you don’t want them leaving your lair - just contact hyzenthlaay and let her know (it’s good for her notes)!

Many people have worked very hard on this traveling dragon, and exalting them would be an absolute shame. Please don’t do it.

The dreams came to Tempest quite suddenly and violently, shaking her so far down to her core that removing herself from bed so she could report to her daily postings was an impossibility most days. She saw in her sleep the bodies of dragons she could not save, the rotted eggs that did not first free their hatchlings, the remnants of merciless attack after merciless attack on her own skin and those of her peers. She was scared, sure, but mostly, embarassed: head of Clan Mavenlark's defense since time immortal, and mere apparations were what haunted her? Surely, she had seen worse in her day to day life.

But slowly, the visions increased their onslaught. They were no longer merely dreams, but visions that echoed her waking hours. Worse yet, they impacted her ability to work - to teach new soldiers, to create schedules, to hold a lance.

The head of Clan Mavenlark noticed the change, as did Tempest's worried fellow guard members. Knowing that she had taken to the job at a particularly violent time in Mavenlark history, the leader of the clan ordered Tempest to temporarily step down from her position and instead take to the roads of Sornieth - a vacation of sorts, funded by the pockets of the clan. Tempest protested, but the leader assured her that this was not a permanent station for her; that the spiral could return at any point, so long as she had made an effort to visit at least three new clans. Somewhat irritated, but somewhat relieved all the same, Tempest bid her fellows farewell and started her journey. Her familiar, a pincher that had been at her side since her hatching, was her only companionship.

Entry 1: The Woods
By: Archiy

Tempest found herself in the middle of the tangled wood deep inside shadow territory. An eeriness and staleness in the air made her alert. snap Tempest eyes darted around looking for whatever had made the sound.
“Whoever’s there come out now!” She yelled.
A Pocketmouse darted out of the brush, frightened by her voice. Upon seeing the pocket mouse Tempest let out a sigh of relief. only a pocketmouse, nothing to worry about...
“Turned around?” The phrase seemed to float in the air.
Tempest spun around trying to locate the source of the voice. She caught a glimpse of gold out of the corner of her eye, she let out a growl as she turned to come face to face with a black and gold Imperial.
“Welcome to the woods” the imperial said with a sly smile.
“The woods?” Tempest asked.
“Well it’s a bit on the nose... but it is where you are, are you not?” She asked cocking her head to the side slightly.
“Well yes but—“
The imperial cut her off, “—as much as I would love to carry on this wonderful conversation you better get going before you get caught up in the purge.”
“...the purge?” Tempest furred her brows in confusion.
“Yes, now leave.” The imperial said impatiently as she twirled Tempest to face the brush where the pocket mouse had come from earlier.
Turning back tempest said, “I don’t understand—“ only to turn back to find the imperial missing.
...very helpful she thought rolling her eyes, back to traveling then...

Entry 2: Tea Time in the Ragtag Town
By: AngoraHeart

Trudging along the winding traveler’s path, Tempest paused for a breath. She had walked all day, stopping only for a snack and caught next to nothing due to her exhaustion. Admitting defeat to herself as her tired wings sagged behind her and her tail dragged, she stumbled to the nearest signpost.
The decaying wood post held several arrows, though whatever places of residence they once signified were likely as long gone as the paint in the carved out runes. One plank stood out however, appearing much more recent than the others with it’s letters still able to be read. Worth a shot... Tempest thought, directing her attention to the dirt path it guided her towards, her back to the descending sun.

She had quickly found the town, and even faster, the inn. Stopping in the basement tea parlor, Tempest coiled wearily on a stool, lost in thoughts of her journey thus far. Her friends back home, her job, her apprentices. The reasons she had left, the cause.. The feeling of a claw brush her shoulder.
Tempest reared around with a loud hiss, the panic escaping her lungs causing her to scramble more. Knocking her table over and sending the cutlery clattering to the floor, her seat tumbling after her long body as her tail caught the spindle.
Before her stood a concerned Wildclaw, her long dainty claws hugging the handle of a teacup.
“I-I um, My...” Tempest stammered, struggling to her feet, mortified, stiff from the strain in her muscles.
The Wildclaw didn’t let go of her concerned look. She quickly set the cup down, helping the Spiral off the floor and guiding her to the next table over, hiding the small dragon from other patrons under her wing. Tempest’s normally cerulean scales were nearly cherry as she fought back tears from the memories that held her viciously in their grasp.
Helping her to a chair, the waitress extended a claw once again. “I’m so sorry dear,” she murmured, leaning forward and offering her towel to the shaky dragon “I didn’t mean to scare you.. I know that look in your eye all to well”. Taking the cloth and meeting the peach-colored dragon’s gaze, Tempest knew without hesitation exactly what this fellow stranger meant.

@Hyzenthlaay here! This dragon is officially a part of the "Around the World in 365 Dergs" challenge. Check out the thread for information and more travelers like this! ...or just read the following:
  • The general idea is that I am going to create 365 unique traveling dragons, send them off into the world, and see what happens. I'm also going to complete mini-challenges along the way using travelers. If that interests you, consider checking the challenge thread out!
  • I don't want to overflood the system with just my dragons, so adopting travelers from me to live in your lair is totally fine! In fact, I'm betting on it. Just let me know.
  • Always feel free to tell me when you have this dragon in your lair! I love hearing updates.
