Known
”Please, come follow me.”

”Please, follow me.” He beckoned with a claw.

The young Fae had only ventured as far as she had under the wing of a Gaoler. Once the point had been reached, the ancient being had turned away—leaving the youngling behind. The small creature rose her head—seeing the Spiral’s gaze hanging just above her.

The male before her had crooked his neck as droplets seeped from beneath his cowls onto the Fae’s head. Almost instinctively, the poor thing recoiled.

“You must be Virtu?” He spoke with a raspy voice, almost as if he was holding back a cough.

The Fae earned the courage to look back at her newfound guardian. “That is what they call me, Known.”

The Spiral was seemingly well-mannered and showed little to no malicious intent. His tail coiled agitatedly and his cowls were wrapped around his body firmly. The air was thick with a foul scent—noticeably that each time the small Fae breathed, she’d have to gag. The Spiral was unmoved, unflinching even when the scent of decay reached his nostrils—he wouldn’t bat an eye. The wetness that escaped the Spiral’s maw had dried off of Virtu, though the stench kept her mind off of the incident—not that she had much of a choice.

“Where are we?” The small Fae asked, looking up at her guardian who’d of began leading the way. “The air is so—”

“Pure. The air is pure.” The Spiral’s interrupted.

Known kept looking forward as his attire chanted the hanging chimes across his body. The air’s smell thickened the farther they went from Onism. It was cold and endlessly foul to walk amongst a ground of flesh—the flesh of the deceased that were unlucky to escape the Black Imperial’s reckoning. The small Fae took great care with her footing, avoiding any form of disrespect to the fallen although they provided the land that they could walk on. The tale of the lost lives was often portrayed as heroism and the youngsters deemed as Offerings would disappear for reasons untold. All was but a mystery in Elsemere, a former place that reeked of death where it had once provided the freshest of feasts and nutrition for the hatchlings—now, the world had been turned upside down.

Virtu was a curious Fae who’d listen to the chimes with utmost caution. Each bell had its own sound and rope—all of which came in a variety of colours that resembled the hue of her former friends. They never returned after being led by the Gaoler.

“Why do you have so many peals?” The Fae asked, tucking in her talons. “They all look—“

Beautiful aren’t they?” Known chipped in.

Another discontinuance that kept Virtu in wonders. All questions asked and the Spiral had an answer for them all—almost as if he had read some form of script hundreds of times before leading anyone into Elsemere.

Venturing further into the decayed landscape, time had seemingly stopped—even if they had trekked for sometime across the lands of Aemayoth’s abandoned parameters. The climate was unchanging, a consistent tint of contaminated pink and the occasional specs of pale gold provided by aged remains—the treasures of the wasteland. There was no sign of water nor food, causing the Fae’s eyes to become dreary and hazy. Virtu knelt down—extending her arms in order to keep her balance for a while longer.

Noticing an absent presence, the Spiral came to a halt and turned to the petite shade of living gold. The poor thing had exhausted herself and the loathsome smell had fogged her mind. As a youngster with poor nutrition to begin with, Virtu’s endurance was terribly poor compared to the average juvenile of her age—making her exceptionally weak to the harsh conditions of Elsemere. Known dangled his head over the youngling once more—only that his toothy grin had progressively revealed itself past his covers.

“Tired, are we?” He asked with drool edging from around his maw.

To the exhausted Fae, the dangling slobber was a tormenting reminder of what she was lacking—a transparent dew of liquid that Elsemere did not bestow on its forsaken venturers. Virtu helplessly brought herself back on her feet, extending herself in hopes of reaching the dew of slaver—a desperate attempt for a slither of life.

“Elsemere is—“

“Elsemere is elsewhere, Virtu. There is only you and I. The outskirts of Aemayoth never ceases but there is a place you may rest.” The Spiral turned to an emporium of carcasses that laid atop of one another in the far distance. “There, where you may feast on your own kind and quench your thirst.”

A land that seemingly had no end until the very desire of a desperate being would become a reality. Elsemere’s nursery laid in wait for Virtu’s presence—beckoning the Fae to come forth and past the grinning Spiral. The taste of flesh would do nicely.

This dragon is an Eld Reaper and a member of the Soul Hunters Initiative. Eld Reapers are dragons that hunt down and kill evil creatures in Sornieth, mainly Eldritch Beings. They will use brute force - both weapons and magic - to kill their assignment. Their soul interactions are limited, and capabilities differ per dragon.

The Soul Hunters Initiative - or the S.H.I. - is a group of dragons who hunt down and collect the souls of those stuck in Limbo, and help them to pass over to their next destination.
