A hatchling who was abandoned by his parents because of his weird looking eyes, Lightsyph was raised by a family of brush dodos who mistook him for one of their own. Spending his childhood in a hidden cove all the way on the eastern side of the peninsula, Lightsylph was taught by his parents how to forage for food and steer clear of predators. Indeed, life was peaceful for this Skydancer. Exploring the cliffsides, swimming in the ocean, and even befriending the other familiars inhabiting the shore, he did it all! (In fact, he was taught how to fly by one of the coastal birds! His parents would’ve done it but y’know... dodos.) Over the course of the years many a happy moment was had in this quaint little cove, but as the last of his flight feathers grew in and Lightsylph became a full fledged dragon, he knew it was time for him to go. He had to find his own place in the world now. With a heartfelt goodbye to his parents Lightsylph slowly made his way over to the shoreline, the water lapping gently at his paws. Spreading his dappled blue and red wings the Skydancer takes flight, sending up a spray of seawater in the process, and soars off towards the painted blue skies of the beyond.

Flying along the outskirts of the Sunbeam Ruins with no particular destination in mind, Lightsylph was stupefied by the sight of strange looking reptilian creatures milling about on the ground. Some were huge! And others even looked a little bit like him! (Due to the isolated nature of his childhood Lightsylph has never encountered a dragon before.) Letting out a squawk of fright as he sees a few of the strange creatures take to the skies, his anxiety only increases tenfold upon noticing that they were heading in his direction. Frantically swiveling his head about, the nervous dragon quickly opts to make for the nearby forest of trees, hoping to lose them underneath the canopy. Crashing to the forest floor in a mess of fur and feathers, the Skydancer is barely on his feet before he’s shoving himself underneath a rotting log. With bated breath the dragon lies, listening intently for any sounds of pursuit. After a long while passes, the only noises heard being the rustling of the wind in the leaves and the light pattering of a rodents paws, Lightsylph decides it’s safe to emerge from the crevice. Giving a disgusted shiver at the globs of sap clumping to his fur and the bits of twigs sticking to his feathers as he squeezes himself out of the hole, the unhappy dragon just hopes that he’ll never have to stuff himself inside a log again.

With that frightful encounter fresh in his mind, the ruffled dragon decides it’s best to keep a wide berth from those strange reptiles in the future. Continuing on his journey without a destination, Lightsylph’s travels would eventually lead him throughout all 4 corners of Sornieth. Traipsing through murky bug-infested bogs, racing across endless fields of grass, braving the sweltering heat of the badlands, and more, Lightsylph was always careful to avoid attracting the attention of any dragon clans in the area. (Which he had come to learn the name of thanks to some of his woodland friends.) Choosing to spend most of his time in the company of the various familiars he encounters during his travels, Lightsylph ends up learning so much from them, like all about the different elemental Flights! And it was during his time of enlightenment living in the Rainsong Jungle when he came across a type of creature that he had encountered once before. A young brush dodo named Ornifex. Quite the tiny thing, it looked fresh out of its nest. Perhaps it was because of the mutual kinship the two avians shared, but the unlikely duo became fast friends. Nearly inseparable! Journeying together into the plaguelands, dragon and bird fearlessly continued on. Well... almost. Humming in thought as he ponders where to visit next, Lightsylph lets out a chirp of surprise as Ornifex leaps off his head and darts into some nearby brambles.
“W-wait!!! Where are you going?”

”Ornifex! Where are you?” Lightsylph called out as he raced across the dreary grey valley. Paws pounding against the bare earth, the Skydancer widens his eyes in alarm upon hearing the cries of his friend a fair distance away. With a burst of speed the dragon races towards the source of the noise, praying that his companion isn’t in any danger. Hurriedly wriggling through a tangle of pustule ridden branches, Lightsylph finds himself in a clearing ridden with mushrooms and fleshy membranes. Surveying the scenery before him, Lightsylph breathes out a sigh of relief upon seeing his friend lying on top of one of the mushroom caps. Shaking his head in exasperation the dragon trots over to his friend. “If you wanted to lay on a bunch of mushrooms you could’ve just said so! No need to give me a heart attack by running off on your own.” Lightsyph chided, vexation lacing his voice.
“Merp.” The dodo replied, fluffing up its feathers and tilting it’s head up at Lightsylph.
“Truly a moving apology,” the dragon murmured sarcastically, eyes alight in faint amusement. Padding closer to his friend, the Skydancer suddenly stops short. “Hmm.. what have you got there?” The dragon murmurs, tilting his head to look behind the dodo. Just barely making out a fuzzy brown mass curled up behind the bird, Lightsylph looks over at his friend questioningly. “Are you abducting small rodents now?” He deadpanned.
“Meep.”
“That’s what I thought,” he sighed, nosing forward to get a closer view of the animal. “Well, he doesn’t look injured. I think you should put him back where you found him.”
“SQWERK!” Ornifex chirped indignantly, glaring up at her friend.
“YOU BARELY KNOW HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF, I’M NOT TRUSTING YOU WITH THE LIFE OF ANOTHER ANIMAL!!” Lightsylph retorted, shooting a glare right back. After a few tense moments of staring competition Ornifex finally relented, letting out little chirps under her breath.
“Wow. Didn’t think you’d give in that easily.”
“Merb.” (Translation = shut up)
“Alright alright, sorry.” The Skydancer murmured good-naturedly. “Anyways, where exactly did you get this little guy from?”
“Caw.” The dodo responded with a shrug of her shoulders.
“How can you not remember?”
“Meep.”
“*sigh* Alright. So now what do we do?” The dragon murmured, defeated.
“MEEP!” Ornifex suddenly screeched, catapulting off of the mushroom!
“What the - now where are you going?!” Lightsylph shouted, only to choke on his words upon catching sight of what Ornifex was pointing at.
“I-is t-that.. another d-dr-dragon?” He stuttered, shaking violently. Taking a few awkward steps back as the stranger grew closer, the panicking Skydancer frantically swiveled his head about, looking for any viable escape routes. “N-no. Can’t fly away, it’s much to close for me to be able to outmaneuver it. Can’t run away either, the area’s covered in pockets of disgusting puss. Who knows what’ll happen if I step in that.” So wrapped up in running escape plans through his mind, the unaware Skydancer let out an undignified yelp as he tripped over a stray mushroom, tumbling backwards into a mass of fleshy membranes. “Eeugh,” He gagged, hissing in revulsion as he tried to untangle himself from the slimy tendrils. Halting in his frantic endeavor upon hearing the soft sound of pawsteps drawing closer to him, Lightsylph attempts to hide his face in the tendrils.
“Please go away,” he whispers shakily, tail twitching nervously.
“Err... yeah.” A distinctly feminine voice mutters awkwardly. “I will. But will you first explain to me why that bird-brained familiar of yours barged into my camp and ran off with my chinchilla?”
“...”
“...”
“I-I’m sorry! I had no idea she stole it, please forgive us!” Lightsylph wailed, trying to curl in on himself as much as his current predicament would allow. Glancing down at the tangled dragon below her, shaking like crazy and looking like he was about to explode into tears, the stranger lets out a chuff of exasperation as she pads over to the stranger and grabs one of his tangled paws. Blanching at the sudden contact, the Skydancer goes rigid as the stranger yanks him out of his entanglement. Giving the dragon a few moments to gather himself, she starts speaking once more.
“It’s fine I guess,” she says with a sigh. “A few of my clanmates familiars are rather, err... simple-minded for lack of a better word, so I’m quite familiar with the trouble they can get into.” Watching as the Skydancer struggles to his paws, she hesitates for a moment before continuing. “What’s with you by the way? You’re acting like this is the first time you’ve ever spoken to another dragon!” Lowering his head in shame, he nervously scuffles his paws.
“W-well... that’s because it is.” Lightsylph murmurs weakly.
“Your kidding me right?” She asks, staring at him blankly.
“No! I’m not a liar.” He says, eyes welling up in frustration.
“Alright, I’m sorry!” She interjects, holding up her paws in a placating manner. In that case, I do apologize for scaring you. That probably wasn’t the best first impression, huh?” She murmurs in a jovial tone, attempting to lighten the mood.
“Y-yeah. I’m sorry as well.” Lightsylph manages to stutter out, easing out of his wary stance.
“Say, why don’t you and your friend drop by for lunch? You look like you haven’t eaten a fresh meal in days, plus it’s the least I could do to repay you!”
“Th-thanks for the offer, but we really have to get going,” He says shyly, averting his gaze.
“SQWARK!!” A voice suddenly screeched, hurling a pebble at the Skydancer’s skull.
“Wha-? OW!” Lightsylph cried out, clutching his head. “What the heck was that for!?”
“Mlerb! Merp! Skar!” (Translation = would you quit being such a baby!)
“Wow, quite the lovable personality your friend has!” The stranger jests, watching the two bicker back and forth with barely contained laughter. Pouncing on his friends head, Ornifex grabs a wad of feathers in his beak and pulls.
“Ow, stop! Okay, I get it!” He cries out, sagging in relief when the dodo finally relinquishes her hold on his crest feathers. Beyond embarrassed, he slowly turns to face the stranger, his face beet red.
“W-well... what time should we leave?”

~ BONUS ~
• And so the trio went back to Vinea’s clan for some lunch.
• (Yup! The stranger with the chinchilla was none other than Vinea!)
• Knowing how apprehensive her new acquaintance gets around other dragons, she takes him to a secluded spot in the camp and asks him to wait there while she go gets the food.
• Making her way back to her companions, bundles of plants and seafood grasped securely in her jaws, Vinea nearly drops the food in shock upon taking in the sight before her.
• There was Lightsylph lying in the grass, laughing in joy as he played with a bunch of her clanmates familiars!
• Padding over to the Skydancer, who had just been bowled over by a red-breasted hainu, Vinea inquires about his fondness for familiars
• Engaging in a lighthearted discussion with him, Vinea asks if he would like to stay here to take care of the familiars
• With some threats encouragement from Ornifex, Lightsylph hesitantly agrees
• Let’s just say it wasn’t long before this Skydancer finally found his place in the world!

~ Notes ~
Quote:“ O-oh! Uh... hello! Please, don’t mind me. I’m just here to take care of the little ones.”

• Is a little self-conscious about his eyes, especially because he’s the only dragon in camp with such odd looking ones.
• Please be patient and calm if you talk to him, he still gets very nervous around other dragons (he’s trying his hardest to grow out of this though!)
• He’s very laid-back and talkative in the company of familiars at least!
• Doesn’t eat meat, he loves animals too much to do that

• His favorite foods are Strawberry Blackberry and Turnip

• Tries to love all familiars, but is lowkey scared of the more eldritch looking ones
• Do not tease him, he will cry.
• Hates the feeling of sticky and gooey things
• You’ll never catch him near the center of camp, it’s much too busy there for his tastes
• If he ever leaves the Sanctuary, be prepared for him to return with a bunch of new familiars at his heels
• Precious child must be protected and is too pure for this world
