Biography
Shapeshifter
Mate : Alhocca
They're both beast shapeshifters, she as a sea dwelling leviathan and him as a vampiric inherited Beast
Charge : He and Alhocca and each other's Charge
Role : carpenter / Ship crafter
Lazarus' heart is beating as strongly as any living being - althought was born form a magical ritual from blood and bones. He inherited from his vampire mother Jarvyana an inner Beast threatening to take control over his mind at any time, turning him into a dangerous and hungry monster ; and from his lich father Honerséan a strong willpower, right values and sense of justice and good. Time passing, he learned how to live with the Beast and to tame It, becoming able to willingly turn into a forest beast.
But he still has difficulties to control the Beast inside and for that reason chose very early to live a bit apart from the clan, in the forest. He never thought about living the clan where he feels he belongs to, but deep inside he still fears he could hurt someone by not controlling himself enough. During his youth, he used to use his vampiric-inherited hunting instincts to scavenge the forest and hunt for preys to feed the clan, but he would have preferred doing something not involving violence and murder, as he felt it was slowly drawing him to madness and strengthening the Beast.
That's when he found his Charge that everything became clear.
When his egg hatched, Alhocca was here. She made herself available, and took care of the hatchling and his siblings in their youth. Then the others prepared themselves to go serve the Windsinger, but Lazarus seemed very happy in the clan too, and decided to stay here.
Alhocca had found her Charge in him since the day she saw his egg, but told no one and hid it from every one, because she didn't want to imprison him in this relationship. She fought against herself during his youth years to refrain from staying wih him all the time, and tried not to stuck herself in the posture of almost a big sister nor a substitution mother, making their relationship rather fuzzy for Lazarus, who didn't know exactly how to word the bond that he knew existed between them.
He always felt in his heart that he was special to Alhocca, but without ever talking to her about it, and never imagining the truth. To him, Alhocca was a very special friend, and when he began to have problems with controlling his inner Beast, he feared for her first ; she also was one of the cornerstones that were preventing him to fell into madness. Hatchling, he had spent days playing on the beatch under her carefull watch with his siblings ; adolescent, he carried on with this tradition, yet alone. He enjoyed any time they spent together and was afraid to ask her, himself and the others questions that could destroy the happy balance he found in his life.
He was suffering from an almost unnatural fear of moving water, a fear that always awakened the Beast inside - even being a Guardian, he had the hardest time trying to learn how to swim, and that made for him an excuse to spend more time with Alhocca, trying to vanquish this fear, without a lot of success.
Alhocca knew and feared greatly that very one day when Lazarus would go on his own Search and find his Charge. But Lazarus never felt the need to go on his Search. He heard the Guardians of the clan talking about it as a wonderful journay to find what they always felt was lacking in their life, to fill the hollow they all had in their very soul, to find what or who completed them and to learn who they truely were, finally whole. But Lazarus never felt like anything was missng in his life. He wasn't really in a hurry to go on his Search and postponed his departure several times.
Finally, Alhocca convinced him to go, saying that it was good for him, that he didn't know yet how much he needed it, but when he'll find out, he will know.
That's how he finally left the clan, reluctantly but convinced by his dearest chilhood friend, very much deep in thought. He noticed the tears she was holding, the accent of despair in her voice she was hiding, and the furrows her tense claws dug in the ground, and he knew something wasn't right.
He made only but a few steps out of the clan, each and every one of those steps screaming in hi verys soul he was going in the wrong direction, and each of his heartbeats seemed to be a hammer trying to break his ribs.
Only a few steps out of the clan, Lazarus stopped, feeling unable to move forward.
"What if something happens during my journey ?"
It took him a few seconds to understand the place his instinct was screaming him to go was the one he just left.
"What if they needed me and I wasn't there ?"
He turned back and hurried back to the clan.
"What if Alhocca needed me and I wasn't there ?"
He rushed towards the sea shore without even realizing it.
"What if something happened to Alhocca and I wasn't there ?"
He landed abruptly in the sand in front of the dragoness he just left, claws grasping the sand, frozen in the very posture she had when he left her, as if she had been unable to move since then.
Panting, he stopped for a second, fully realizing what he didn't understand for years, and unfolded his large deep blue wings to embrace her.
"I should have followed my own instincts and never searched for something I already found." he whispered to her ear.
That's how the shortest Search the clan ever had ended, because it was over before it even began.
Now, Alhocca and Lazarus are not hidding their Charge relationship anymore and they are living happily in the clan. Lazarus still lives in the woods and Alhocca next to Alec's ruins, but they spend a lot of time together. These soulmates share a strong bond nothing can destroy, and anybody looking at them only a few second would forget about the fact Alhocca saw Lazarus hatch and grow up in front of their sheer genuine joy of sharing their lives.
Alhocca helps Lazarus a lot with controlling his inner Beast, and that's when returning from his short Search that he decided to learn a way to travel the sea with her without swimming. That's how they both set sail towards the clan Alhocca came from, to visit her parents Verne and Uranie (and to introduce Lazarus to them, as she didn't even warned her mother that her Search was over), and to seek the wisdom of Aïssé, the ship crafter of the clan.
Lazarus and Alhocca lived a few months in the Viridian Labyrinth with them, Lazarus learning eagerly from the passionated mirror and finding a passion himself in wood crafting, he even began to seek new abilities from Yourcenar, decided to come back to clan with the role of carpenter and ship crafter, leaving behind him his life of violence.
The two of them often return to the Nature clan, and are very much aware grandpa Verne is decided to take home a children or two. Lazarus often comes back to his masters to learn more crafts and to share his work with them.
They get along well with Alhocca's parents and grand parents, and are glad to spend time with them.
