|| Phaethon's Call: A Lore Raffle ||

In celebration of the Geminids Meteor Shower, we are hosting a raffle on behalf of Nightcall: A Lineage Project. We aim to commemorate those who've participated in the lineage already while also bringing new people into our midst. This project would never have gotten very far without all of you, and we want to recognize that! So thank you to everyone who has ever helped grow the Nightcall family.

For those who've never heard of us before, please follow the link above to head over to the Dragon Share forum and poke through our thread. Not familiar with lineage projects? This guide is also a fantastic resource to help introduce you to one.

With that being said, please note that the majority of this raffle is going to be heavily based on lore. If that's not your thing, then this raffle might not be for you.

|| The Phaethon Nightcallers ||

Monday snippet:

Out of desire to have his existence confirmed, Phaethon travels to the planet of the drake gods.

Although it's not as well known, other great wyrms came into existence during the First Age, born from the calamity of the heavenly bodies in the beginning of time. These drakes did not call Sornieth their home, but many found their own respective calling within neighboring planets or elsewhere in the solar system.

The Voidbreaker is one such drake, born from the explosive magic of churning celestials and what we now know as the Shade. He was sealed off from Sorneith by the World Pillar before he even had a chance to be acquainted with the other Eight wyrms, but the Shade which had played a role in his making was too much of a threat to their fragile planet.

Tuesday snippet:

Once there, his Shade-grappled form is unrecognizable, and he is not allowed to even set a single claw against the young, budding planet.

Surrounded by nothing but the fragments of stars and blackness, the Voidbreaker wanted nothing more than to devour their magic, a yearning from the void which became his essence. He threw fragments of stone after stone down upon their world, large chunks of rock colliding with Sornieth's atmosphere. They streaked across the sky in a radiant display of fiery color before burning down to mere pebbles. Nothing he did was strong enough to break their barrier.

Wednesday snippet:

In his rejection, Phaethon takes on a self-imposed celestial journey, facing numerous dangers in the deep reaches of the solar system. Despite his own fervent misgivings, the drake is not dissuaded from his original goal and does not change his mind.

The Voidbreaker eventually gave up his foolish task, knowing that he alone would not be enough to prevail against Eight drakes of his own kind, but he remained envious of Sornieth, teaming with magic. The jumble of rocks and dust left behind by the creation of the worlds became his work, and the Voidbreaker used this debris to make streams of comets and asteroids, awed by the display in which he'd created before.

He spent the rest of his days livening up the darkness which surrounded the planets and their trajectories around a young sun...
... or maybe he lied dormant, undisturbed in his own lil space around the planets ??? like he calcified into the actual Geminids asteroid or something

Thursday snippet:

His flight is disastrous - as a result, he drives asteroids too close to Sornieth, burning them up in the atmosphere, and also too far from it, freezing them in pockets of space.

As the ages passed and the Pillar finally broken, the deities of Sornieth did not take kindly to discover another drake out there whom embraced the Shade. The Voidbreaker's existence went unacknowledged and still he could not breach the planet's atmosphere, the barrier intact even with the Pillar shattered, but this New Age provided him the opportunity to finally wage his war against the Great Wyrms.

It started slowly at first- through the Shade that leaked down the crevices of the barrier and seeping its way in. Before long, some of dragonkind began to show signs of being Shade-touched. The Nightcallers were born, children created in his image and spread out among the rest of dragonkind like a wolf in sheep's clothing.

In a way, they have come to be a Flight of his own, inhabited by his will and intent.

The Voidbreaker longs to be among his children, but the closest he can ever get to Sornieth is with the comets he showers down on them during his annual passage through Sornieth's orbit, bringing tidings of radiance from the void of space. It is called the Geminids Meteor Shower.

Among the Nightcall family, this drake deity is known as Phaethon, the name given to him by a scholar who first discovered the Geminids, curious as to its origins. And though his history was never written, the lineage never forgot the tidings of the Original Nightcaller.

The Geminids Meteor Shower is considered by many to be the best shower in the heavens, and this year, the celestial event seems to have a strange pull on the Nightcall family. These multicolored meteors are full of powerful elemental magic, but there's something more to this year's annual shower than the ones from years before.

The Voidbreaker, better known as Phaethon, is an amalgamation of Shade and stardust, creator of the asteroids and other rocky bodies in the solar system which Sornieth must traverse in its orbit around the sun. Nightcallers have always been at their sharpest and strongest during the night, and they seem to gain a special boon with the arrival of the Geminids, when Phaethon is at his closest.

The meteors from this particular shower are carrying Phaethon's inheritance with them, but the "truth" behind these meteors truly is nebulous. Raining from the heavens with the magical gifts of a long forgotten deity, Nightcallers are racing to catch them where they fall.

No matter the element it corresponds to, the meteor responds to the Nightcaller who catches it and what they want or need, and if they are unsure or indecisive, strange things have been known to happen, sometimes even something goes wrong ??

This should go without saying, but you have be a participant of the Nightcall lineage project in order to qualify for this raffle. This means, at the minimum, you MUST have a Nightcall dragon registered to the project. If you aren't already involved, heading to the Available Hatchlings tab and claiming a Nightcaller of your own is a good place to start!

We'll give out raffle tickets to players who partake in the event tasks. Some tasks will be available all week long and some will be daily. Once you've completed a task, please ping our moderators @/blackcrowking and @/StoryofaWhale here on this raffle thread so we can verify the task completion and assign you tickets. The more tickets you collect, the better your chances are of winning a prize pack.

The Registry

Been There, Done That - Earn 1 ticket for every Nightcaller that you currently have on the registry.

Get Registered - Earn 2 tickets for registering a new Nightcaller during the event.

Two-Faced - Earn 3 tickets for any registered cross-lineage Nightcaller (that meets the requirements for all lineages involved). More than two lineages? Earn 1 bonus ticket for each additional lineage.

1. Share your favorite Nightcaller(s), either yours or from the Registry { x | x }, and tell us why they're your favorite(s). Share no more than 3 dragons.

1. Give likes out to dragons on the Registry { x | x }. Earn 1 ticket per dragon liked. You can like up to 5 dragons per day.

The Lore

All About Me - Earn 3 tickets for writing a small lore blurb about your Nightcaller (2-5 sentences minimum).

Strength in Numbers - Earn 3 tickets for having your Nightcaller's lore connect to their family tree (ex. mentioning their parents, siblings, etc.).

Phaethon Blessed - Earn 5 tickets for writing about how the celestial event impacts your Nightcaller (2-5 sentences minimum).

Nightfall Notes - Earn 10 tickets for participating in the daily lore competition.

The Coliseum

New Level - Earn 5 tickets for a level 5 registered Nightcaller.

So Far - Earn 10 tickets for a level 10 registered Nightcaller.

Untouchable - Earn 15 tickets for a level 15 registered Nightcaller.

Ruthless - Earn 20 tickets for a level 20 registered Nightcaller.

No Limit - Earn 25 tickets for a level 25 registered Nightcaller.

The Arts

Self-Portrait - Earn 25 tickets for drawing a picture of your Nightcaller (any medium).

Headbanger - Earn 3 tickets for sharing a song associated with your Nightcaller. This could range from lyrics that fit their theme or personality, or even just a song that reminds you of them.

Fashion

1. Earn 5 tickets for creating an outfit for your Nightcaller in the Dressing Room and/or sharing an existing outfit that you already have for them.

Nightly Shroud/Nightly Vestments - Earn 10 tickets for participating in the daily Dressing Room competition.

1. The top three winners of the Nightly Shroud/Nightly Vestments will earn 5 bonus tickets.

Misc

- For those on the Nightcall thread who donate their hatchlings during the Nightcall Celestial Event, earn 5 tickets per hatchling.

Link Back to Us - Earn 3 tickets for advertising our raffle in your signature during the week of the event.

Phone a Friend - Only ping people that you know. Earn 1 ticket per user pinged, and if the referee ends up participating in the raffle, both you and the person you pinged will earn 3 bonus tickets.

For each day of the raffle, we are picking a theme related to either the Nightcall lineage or the Celestial Event. Participation in the daily tasks will earn you tickets as well as a badge! These mini-events will only be available for the duration of that day- so if you miss a day, you won't be able to get tickets for it anymore. You can, however, still submit a late entry in order to claim the badge.

The Nightfall Notes
You must write a little lore around the chosen theme with a minimum 5 sentence requirement.
