Beautiful, glimmering, golden, Gilda looks every inch the powerful princess that she is. Her name means "coated with gold" or "gilded," and it suits her perfectly. When Drop was a modest and unassuming professor, she paid him scant attention. But when his scales began shimmering with gold, she was the first to notice. She began to flatter him with sweet words and kind actions, and Drop, who despite his high birth had never really been noticed before by anyone other than his hatchling students, almost instantly became smitten. Before long he was head-over-tail in love. The two of them wed at the same time he became Crown Prince.

Much of the Clan believes (with good reason) that Gilda's professed love for Drop is feigned, and that her only interest in him is his new high rank. Others suspect that she is working for his enemies, and that she will eventually help take him down, and wed whichever dragon is elevated in his place. But Drop refuses to believe any of the cruel rumors, or even to listen to them. He is in love, for the first time in his life, and he inherited his sire's unwavering faith in other dragons besides. He truly believes that Gilda returns his love.

Only time will tell if Drop is correct... or if Gilda will one day betray him.
