Biography

Role: Astronomer
Mate: Dilarin

"Look closely, for the night is dark and full of terrors"

Opherion is a shady character. he keeps to his star charts and telescopes, mapping the known cosmos for hours each night. he doesn't sleep much, since he has insomnia. he is energetic and loves to play board games with the others, but he doesn't mind if he looses

Young Opherion was curled up in a ball on a bed of soft grey cloth. his parents had left, but he didn't know why. he couldn't sleep. he laid there and stared into the darkness surrounding him for a few minutes. nothing. he didn't feel tired. the Skydancer closed his eyes. he immediately wanted to open them,so he did. he lifted himself into a sitting position, darkness in every direction. he was so bored. he wanted to do something, but he didn't know what. there had to be something he could do,like reading a book to make himself fall asleep. Opherion knew that wouldn't work,he just didn't want to sleep,or read. he hopped down from the bed and landed lightly on the floor, fumbling for a few seconds before he found the torch. he struck a match and lit the torch, watching their small lair become bathed in light. it had a window at one end, with a telescope that his dad sometimes fussed with beneath it. he felt drawn to it that night, and lifted his eye to the circle of glass that allowed him to see so much more than he knew. there were thousands of them. literally thousands. he dared not take his gaze away, for he could watch the sprawling net of stars for eternity and never be bored. points of light varying in size and brightness all screamed for his attention, just like the ones covering his own hide. he pulled back to study a portion of his tail. Opherion saw lines connecting spots of light, and smaller ones dotted around them. he returned to the telescope, comparing the likeness. now he saw patterns in the stars. a wolf here,a dragon there, and that cluster to the left even looked like a moth! there was so much more. if the sky was so vast, why not the land?he could explore that if not the high reaches of outer space. the Skydancer was fascinated

His parents both died of an unknown infection and he hit the road to go find somewhere else to live, since no one would look after him and all they did was look at him with pity and sigh, sometimes avoiding him on purpose or shoving food in his face and asking him to go away. he didn't like it. he flew as far away as he could, training his wind magic along the way. he came to the Shadow Realm and met a lone Imperial. he was a teen, just like him. at first Opherion felt threatened but he could see that Dilarin was struggling with something.

The pair traveled together. Opherion and Dilarin spared with their magic, each finding the other's powers new and exciting. the Skydancer had never met such a fascinating dragon. he soon found that he was falling in love with Dilarin, but he was not afraid. when he was ready,he would tell him. they found NightClan after a few months, and decided to stay. Opherion found friends with common interests among Everdark's fellows, and soon began making use of paper by drawing star charts. others like Starsmoke and Sunmist and other artistic dragons made them look stunning, painting them on canvases and making collages out of gems based on the stars. the Skydancer loved the community feeling, how anything he made others would look at it and offer their own skills. his love for Dilarin could not be forgotten. he made sure the Imperial was okay, and often visited him to tell him about his day and listen to the dragon's tales about his day what he was carving. he sometimes helped out in the bone workshop and just offered his company.
