Farainne had labored long and hard attempting to give life to his art. Countless times he tried the ritual. Sometimes the paint on the paper would animate briefly; other times nothing. But each time the ritual was finished, the painting was ruined and unusable, a dismal unrecognizable splotch of paint on paper. But he persisted. Attempt after attempt, he felt the mystical energies coalescing, but something was still missing. Finally, a man covered in drab brown fabric wandered into his gallery. The newcomer, Ersidia, found himself drawn to Farainne and Farainne found a muse, a partner, and the missing piece. The ritual wasn't flawed, after a thousand iterations. The only thing missing was a soul willing to share the responsibility of raising little colorful drakelings. Together the pair succeeded in breathing life into art...
First of her kind. Arcanist's Chosen. Miracle. Aphra.
Before she could understand what any of the monikers meant, she was blessed with a vision. As soon as pigment had become flesh, and even before she saw the faces of her eager fathers, her sight was filled with an immense dragon. Incomprehensibly large, yet no bigger than herself. An enigma. Motes of magenta energy and runes whirled around his head in circular patterns too complex for her to understand. They locked eyes - sudden fear, then comforting warmth. He smiled at her. He hoisted one of his four immense arms and ever so gently tapped the center of her forehead with a gigantic claw. A tingling sensation spread out from that point, across her forehead, and down over her eyes and cheeks. Quickly the tingling faded along with the magnificent dragon in her vision.

It turned out the ritual wasn't quite perfect, and several changes had to be made before it was attempted again. Aphra is unable to physically mature, stuck in a hatchling's body. She also struggled for a long time with speech, taking years to learn and use even simple sounds. She started off alternatively learning Draconic Sign Language from Ehimera, another dragon in the Glade. When she did finally master the Draconic tongue, she had a thirst for more. Her father, Farainne, taught her the tonal Coatl language. Eventually she moved on to speaking with ambassadors from the beastclans, learning Mith and Maren, and currently working on Serthis.

Aphra has a younger brother, Varaeum, who didn't stay smaller for long. Ersidia and Farainne kept improving the ritual that brought life to the kids, and now they are almost indistinguishable from natural 'hatch'lings. 'Vare' is always game to follow his older little sister's plans, but also acts as her protector. She has also made close friends with Pascal, a young Pearlcatcher from another clan. Together they go on adventures, test out Pascal's inventions, or get up to some harmless mischief. Aphra is a sweetheart, and gets away with more than she should because of her youthful innocence.
