She watched him gazing at his lair proudly.
He was so pretty.
She was without a home.
So she joined him.
He blinked his large eyes at her, curious.
She smiled and walked past him.
She was home.
Plain little girl, they called her.
Well, maybe.
But he didn't seem to mind.
She asked his name.
Alora.
It was as pretty as he was.
So she took that too.
He laughed and give it to her, taking his second name for himself.
Torquil.
She was incredible lucky.
Her home, her mate, her name.
Hers.

Time pasted.
She had two hatchlings.
She watched them grow into fledglings who dreamed of exaltation.
Torquil smiled and agreed if that's what they wanted, they should have it.
She cried as she help them train to be strong.
She cried harder when they left.
He held her, calmly.

She slowly changed, losing some of her plainess.
Catching the stars in her wings and the smoothness of metal in her scales.
Adding a bit of glimmer to her color.
She grew in confidence.

Then he joined the clan.

An Imperial Dragon.
Big and majestic.
So huge compared to her.
And made of crystal.
He was startlingly beautiful in his contrasting colors.
Black and orange.
She felt a warm glow whenever she looked at him.

Spending all his free time talking to her.
Listening to her sadness that her daughters were off fighting for their elemental deity, and her guilt over her sadness.
He comforted her, telling her that there was no shame in loving.
He told of his life.

Then...
He told her of his growing love.
How he had noticed her from the beginning.
And how he felt joining this clan had been the luckiest moment of his life.
That he wanted her.
He wanted a life with her.
To make bright winged hatchlings with her.
And watch them grow.

She wondered what he would be like if he ever truly loved.
But thanked him.
He had given her a home and now gave her the freedom to enjoy it.

She wondered at her luck.
But smiling flew into her future with a laugh.
