Biography
A Star at Dawn
The world was torn apart by war. For centuries the war had raged, a bloodthirsty beast. Plants withered in the blood-soaked earth, forests were dying, green fields turned into deserts.
And the War-Beast fed.
Not always was there fughting, but always there was a next battle. It had gone on too long for anyone to remember the reason for the first battle, but it had also gone on too long for anyone to make a life in peace. With so many dead, so many fields dying, nothing was left. There was no fruit to gather, no animals alive to hunt. One could only survive by taking from others.
Only the War-Beast feasted.
Nobody remembered how it came to existence. Nobody knew how old it was. Nobody dared to question it. But Priests of War prayed to it, asking for strength in battle, for rich pickings.
It granted what they asked of him, turning those fighting into mindless beasts serving only War.
And with every drop of blood spilled, the War-Beast grew.
The gods watched, worried. Until they finally decided to go against the War-Beast. They couldn’t fight it themselves without risking their world, so instead they send a Champion.
The gods send them through storms filled with ice and ash, lightening and strength-draining sickness. They throw them into the sea and rose them up to the shore to withstand the earth. Flaying magic tore at them, and the stregth of nature shook their bones.
Withstanding each element, the Champion was granted its power.
The Champion arrived to the fight between the Dark of the night and the Light of the day, shining with the power of their blessing.
The War-Beast only laughted at them, thinking the gods weak for their decision not to fight it directly.
It did not understand the power the Eleven could call working together, and it did not get the time to learn.
The War-Beast died still disbelieving of its own weakness, and the bright star of the Champion brought new peace to the war-shattered world.
The Champion‘s name is long since forgotten, but they are still honored. And to this day hatchlings born between Night and Day with the first light and the last shadow in their scales, are named after this star rising at dawn.
