The myth of the ‘Kinje’ (Kin-yay), or ‘Luminarie’ in the common tongue, dates back to the last few centuries of the second age.

Many travellers in the mountains return home with stories of an ethereal light that travelled through the passes at night, illuminating the safe paths for any who dared to follow. A neutral spirit, the Kinje does not intentionally help any who use it for guidance, but it will not oppose them either. Rather, the creature prefers to be left alone to walk between the mountains, on an eternal quest to find its long-gone home. However, many of the tales warn not to block the Kinje’s path, lest one wishes to be blinded.
