Aether is one of the clan's engineers and the debugger of the main team. She uses her ability to manipulate machinery to keep machines in check, disable them in emergencies, and to test for broken code. Unlike most of the engineering team, she is not always present in the clan and seems to come and go nowadays. Only the lead engineer, Kaminari, seems to ever be aware of Aether's whereabouts.
Much like her parents, ERROR.exe and CIPHER.exe, Aether is an artificial dragon created to serve a purpose. She is capable of manipulating machinery and even entering magitech devices as if her body were ethereal, but these skills are limited within clan walls at the request of fellow engineers. Alternatively, she works in intelligence and engineering for the magitech team, and she maintains the systems and ensures that all processes continue running as scheduled. She was created with compatibility to magic and magitech in mind, to better fit into Sornieth.
As a result, she does not really know what it is like to "live" like other dragons and is always seeking more projects to work on instead of socializing. Her attempts to communicate are awkward at most or end up going nowhere.
Aether is a potent magic user, having three elements over the more common dual-typing, but her powers are not stable enough to use without some serious risk. Her powers appear in the form of Ice, Electric, and Arcane magic. Though her eyes appear a default glowing white, they change according to her current elemental typing. She is considered one of the strongest engineers but not skilled enough to rival some of the clan's best mages.
Her original designation is "AETHER.exe", but her clan mates have taken to simply calling her "Aether."
⌈ BACKSTORY ⌋
Aether's earliest memory was being raised in an Ice facility. She wasn't informed of her origins, because such info wasn't important for her purpose. Most of her early life was spent in training. She was encouraged to use her skills of machine manipulation and travel, and she was allowed to work as much as she desired. Since she knew nothing else, practice was all she ever did. She never left the walls of that building, and she had no concept of "outside."
While working on a machine, Aether came across a virus that promptly corrupted her system, causing her to lose control and go berserk. The last thing she could remember was a burning pain that couldn't be extinguished as the virus spread across her body and smashing the machine in a blind rage. Then everything faded.
When Aether woke up surrounded by the twinkling trees of Starwood Strand and far away from the facility, she was confused and heavily injured. For the first time, she also felt afraid. She was inexperienced about the world outside and has zero instructions on how to find her way home. The virus had left and didn't cause any permanent damage, but even knowing that provided no comfort to her.
After a few days of limping about and trying to escape the woods, Aether ran into another dragon with similar markings to her own, which caught her interest - a Ridgeback named Kaminari. Kami offered to take Aether to her own clan up on the floating island above, to which Aether agreed.
Unfortunately, flying was also a challenge for Aether. Though her wings were not badly damaged, this was the first time that she got to stretch and test her wings outside of the facility. She ended up flopping around like a newborn hatchling in her first attempts, causing Kami to fly back down to help teach her first. She felt embarrassed, but Kami simply laughed it off and offered to teach her how to fly back at the observatory.
Due to her artificial origins, Aether didn't exactly have any physical growing up to do, but she did have to grow up mentally. She lacked a social life and struggled to adapt to living among a group of dragons at first.
When Aether finally earned her own spot as an engineer on the magitech team, Kami gifted her with a set of goggles.
Later in her life, Aether became aware of her parents and learned of an organization called "FL/GHT" from a passing dragon. She felt a strong calling towards this particular group and, after asking her clan for a temporary leave and with Kami's blessing, began to seek them out.
