Astrid came from an odd family.
Her mother was exalted when she was young, a tradition for the family. Her brother was named the successor of his family's fortune, so Astrid was useless. She was planned to be exalted, but her brother ran away before the caravan came for her. She was named the successor, and loved it. She was sent to the magic school her brother (And every heir in her family) went to and enjoyed it there. Then, the marriage was arranged. He was handsome and rich, but arrogant and narcissistic.
Angry and hurt, she ran away from her family.
She ran into a 'empty' tunnel and found herself surrounded by surprised dragons. After some rapid gibbering with the head Fae, she was added to the clan.
She learned that her brother was found and re-made the heir. Free from her old life, she enjoys her new life with her new clan.
