Biography

"I may not remember what happened to me, but I know I'll never forget Magus."

~
Lucette, Part 1, Interlude
???

~

Somewhere in the Shifting Expanse...

Pain shot down her back as bright lights filled her vision, making her head pound. She thought she could hear dragons speaking all around her, but she couldn't make out their words. Straining to open her eyes, her vision blurred as she saw what looked like her tail, and along it, something metal was clamped all up her spine. She tried to speak, but something was wrong. She reached one shaking paw to feel her jaw and only felt more cold metal. More pain fired through her entire body, and everything went black...

...

When she came to, she didn't know how long she'd been out. This time, she felt none of the intense pain she'd felt earlier, but the brightness of the room made her head pound lightly. She attempted to sit up, but the pounding in her head grew, and she winced.

“How are you feeling?”

She turned to see who had spoken. The only dragon in the room with her now was a blue Pearlcatcher with shimmering blue wings and striking green eyes. He looked young, about her own age.

“Do you remember what happened?” the Pearl asked softly.

Images flashed rapidly through her mind, making her head pound again, but she only shook her head in answer, inspecting the metal parts along her tail, spine and chest.

He hesitated before telling her. “You were struck by lightning at the Tempest Spire...your implants are what's keeping you alive now...”

His words seemed to grow distant as she thought her heart would stop. Her limbs shook as she struggled to climb down from the white bed, and her eyes fixated on the nearest mirror. She stood frozen, staring at her reflection in horror, stepping towards it for a closer look, as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing. As she stared, she could see the Pearl's jaws moving with his own reflection, but she didn't hear his words. She brought her claws to her chest up to her lower jaw, now nothing more than metal plating and wires, as was her entire spine, from her shoulders down to the tip of her tail.
Luce's implants

“I'm a monster...” she whispered hoarsely.

The Pearl shook his head, his own voice quiet. “You're not—”

“You don't understand...”

“But—”

“YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!” she screamed, whipping around to face him as hot tears streaked her blue fur. “I'm nothing but machine now...” She couldn't stop her tears, and she sank to the floor, burying her face in her paws as she wept.

The Pearl's own eyes began to sting as he heard the Tundra's muffled cries, but he held back any tears that threatened to spill. He knelt down beside her, taking one of her paws in his and helped her to her feet as she sniffled.

“You're no machine,” he whispered to her. “You're the strongest dragon I've ever met.” When the she-drake gave him a curious look, he added with a small smile, “Not many dragons survive lightning strikes like that, you know.”

The Tundra's tears soon ceased, and she sniffled one last time, her metal jaw quivering slightly.

“I'm Magus, by the way,” he introduced himself.

“Lucette,” she spoke her name, almost inaudibly. “But most dragons just call me Luce.” Suddenly, sharp pain shot through her body, and she gasped as she trembled.

Magus suddenly held out his claws towards her as they began to glow bright green. In a matter of seconds, Luce felt her agony ebb, until it was completely gone, and she stared at him in bewilderment.

Magus sent her a smile, reaching into his robes and pulling out what looked like an old hat. He placed it on his head, and for just a moment, a green glow spread from brim to tip.

“Come with me,” he said, holding out one paw to her. When Luce appeared reluctant, he added, “Your implants will only keep bringing more pain, but my magic can help you.”

Luce hesitated still. She'd only just met this dragon, should she trust him? But his magic had erased her pain. Was it true, what he said? Would her implants that were keeping her alive only cause more pain? Was Magus' magic really the only thing that would stop it?

She locked her eyes onto his, heaving a shaky sigh, and took his paw.
