Bea StarThistle
Bee Keeper
(Royal Jelly Honeytummy)

Proudly carrying on a family tradition

In a small corner of the world sat a beautifully crafted star thistle hive, large enough to live many dragons comfortably with it’s large base and smaller lairs branching away from all sides. Two royal Honeytummy dragons presided over this hive with patience and care, bringing up a young female royal hatchling who would one day take over from her mother as queen, they lovingly dubbed her Bea. From birth Bea was taught all about the hive, it’s occupants, the bees and the gardens they cared for, which she eagerly lapped up. She was taught how to grow their sacred star thistle plants and how to care for their precious bees. Bea learnt about their hive worked in comparison to the hives of their bees and what made a good and just ruler.

Bea was still very young when the unforeseeable happened, Hornets attacked their hive. In her studies, she had learned that this had happened to the very first Honeytummy hives but the Hornets hadn’t been heard of since, so everyone let their guards down. The Hornets attacked to take over the hive, taking down every dragon as they made their way up to the top of the hive where the royal jelly Honeytummies resided. Bea’s mother knew she had to keep her hatchling safe more than anything, she was her legacy. The queen slipped of a pouch she kept around her neck containing a few precious star thistle seeds and put it over Bea’s head, pushing her out of the hive as she could hear the Hornets approaching.

Seeing her mother for the last time, Bea took off as fast as her little legs could carry her, the sacred pouch banging against her tearstained chin. She didn’t get far from the hive before she spotted a queen bee lying in the dirt, the Hornets must have swatted it as they started their raid. Bea gingerly picked up the queen bee and placed it carefully in the pouch, hoping against hope that she would be okay, and carried on running. She didn’t stop until she reached another clan in the The Viridian Labyrinth and was welcomed in and cared for by the then matriarch.

Still missing her family Bea became part of this clan, growing stronger and caring for the queen bee she saved, who now has her own hive of bees to preside over. Bea is now a bee keeper, crafting small hives for her growing swarm of bees to live in as well as having a beautifully maintained garden growing her precious star thistle plants for the bees to make honey from. Adorned with flowering gladeboughs, daisy petals to make her many friendly bees happy, Bea feels at home here.
