No one knows how his egg ended up in the water, or what great unknowns must have aligned for his egg to then end up and clam gentle waters that would warm his egg to help bring him to life, but on one fateful in the beginning of January, Raghnall broke through the shell of his egg and was greeted by the gentle warm waters that had rocked and warmed him. He spent the first few weeks eating the plant life that floated on the surface of the water, and at night he would stare at the stars as the water rocked him to sleep.

One fateful day the a water current brought him close to shore, where a pair of humble fishers caught sight of the young hatchling floating and with a look of shock on their face, pulled Raghnall from the water before taking the young hatchling home where they would raise him as their own son.

As he grew and matured, his adopted parents would begin to teach him the craft of fishing. They taught him the importance of patience, and how to distinguish the different types of fish he would pull in on his line. He was happy and content with the life his adopted parents had afforded him, and as simple as it was he wished for nothing else - until the one fateful night that changed everything.

A storm blew in while he was fishing one night, but Raghnall was not bothered by the storm as it would often rain and storm while he fished, and nothing had happened in the past. Something however was different about this storm, it seemed to be charged with more than just rain and lightning in the clouds. The flashes of lightning would light up the whole sky, and the rain seemed to beat down on the ground with more force than normal. Noticing all of this, Raghnall decided that maybe it would be best for him to seek shelter, but it was far too late to escape what fate had instored for him.

A streak of lightning hit the sand of the beach he was fishing on, lighting up the sky with its bright blue light and melting the sand into a glass. It was over in an instant, and as his eyes cleared themselves of the spots and line caused by the flash of bright light, Raghnall thought himself lucky that the bolt of lightning had caused him no harm. The lightning bolt however had affected him and by week's end, he would begin to realize that he had not walked away from the event untouched.

It all started one morning when a sharp pain from his eyes awoke him from his sleep. The pain resided just as quickly as it had presented itself, and Raghnall wondered if the pain had only been phantom pain caused by his dreams. He wrote it off as nothing and began his morning routine and it was only when he caught his reflection in a pool of water that he realized his once deep blue eyes were now glowing with an intense light. He could not bring himself to believe what he was seeing, and he muttered over and over about how this all must be some sort of dream, but the cry of alarm from the one he had called his mother all these years was all it took to cement the idea that this was not just a dream.

He visited every doctor that would agree to look at him and none could tell him what was causing his strange eye glow, and with each “We don’t know” Raghnall would find himself feeling more and more dejected. He amassed stares everywhere he went, and while he silently wished his eyes to go back to normal, something deep within him was beginning to flourish and his eyes would soon be the least of his worries.

Soon after his last visit with a doctor, Raghnall began to notice that he seemed to attract more static electricity than normal and before long he would notice that tiny sparks would arch between his fingertips if they lingered close enough to one another. This new development confused him more but it wasn’t until he unwillingly electrocuted all the fish in a small tide pool by simply standing within its waters that Raghnall began to panic.

He began reaching out, trying to find anyone who would listen to his plight, he begged for someone to fix him or to even help him understand what was happening to him. For weeks his letters and pleas went unanswered, until a letter arrived back from the Shifting Expanse that expressed interest in helping, the only problem was he would need to travel far away from the only place he had called home.

With both his parents' blessing, Raghnall packed up what little he called his own and began the long trek that would hopefully grant him with the answers he was so desperate to find. The journey was a long and difficult one, and many times the young dragon wanted to give up and turn back, but his need to understand what was going on within himself kept him going, and after many weeks he finally found himself face to face with the dragon who had promised him he could help.

As days turned into weeks, Raghnall could not believe what the other dragon was telling him, there was no way that he who was no more than a simple fishing dragon could possess magic. His confusion started melting away however when his now teacher began to show him how to control the electricity that now filled his body, and when electricity no longer seemed to expel from his body without his consent, Raghnall felt a sort of calm wash over himself - he could go back to fishing.

That want to fish however seemed to sink further into the back corners of his mind as his teacher began to show him more amazing things that he could do with his new found magical ability. By the time a year had come and gone, Raghnall no longer had any thoughts of being a simple fisherman and instead sought to only learn more to strengthen his abilities.

One of the many few things that caused him pause however, was when he discovered that he was no longer capable of having a child of his own, and while he had never thought of settling down to have his own family, the thought that this would no longer be an option for him, brought an overwhelming sense of sadness that seemed to be always looming in the back of his mind.

It was around this time that the great Tidelord had become aware that one of his followers had departed from his domain. That fact alone did not bring him much pause, but the knowledge that this departure had caused him to abandon his talents and skills that had been a gift from the water to pursue that from another caused him great distress.

He could understand Raghnall’s want to be in control of the gifts granted to him by chance, but knowing he turned his back on the life granted to him by water when just having control was no longer enough to satisfy him was enough for Tidelord to decide that it was time to bring his follower back to the water.

The great deity spent days watching the every move of his wayward follower, trying to get an understanding of the dragon’s motivations. His goal was to find a weakness he could use to drive Raghnall away from the clutches of lightning and back to the water, and after a week of careful observation Tidelord hatched his plan.

He waited until the wayward dragon was standing near the water’s edge and created an egg using a tiny bit of himself before admiring its beauty and infusing the tiny life within the light blue shell with the essence of the sea itself. Pleased with his creation he placed the egg among the waves and encouraged them to move the egg gently towards the dragon who was lost within his own thoughts at the water’s edge.

Raghnall was pulled from his thoughts by the sight of some object being brought towards the shore by the waves. As the object drew closer to shore, the dragon recognised it to be an egg, and without a second to question why it was in the water rushed out and gathered the egg into his arms before frantically looking around trying to figure out where the egg had come from.

Days turned into weeks as Raghnall tried to discover just where this precious egg had come from. He thought that someone had to be mourning its loss and that they were out scouring the lands hoping to find it safe. It was during this time that he remembered his parents explaining how they had found him among the waves as a young hatchling, and he wondered if maybe the egg before him came from the same mysterious origins as his own must have at one point.

His fascination with the mysterious egg grew with the passing of each day, and he found himself spending less time expanding his knowledge and skills while spending more time watching the egg grow and preparing for when the egg he now considered his own would crack and give him the first glimpse of life it held within.

His wait would end early one July morning, as the sounds of the egg’s shell cracking and cute little sounds coming from within the egg let him know that it was finally time. He watched, holding his breath as bit by bit the crack grew and after what felt like a lifetime, a small beautiful female hatchling was looking up at him with striking blue eyes. As he gathered her into his arms he felt a sensation that reminded him of being rocked by the sea and he knew that she was indeed something special. He decided on the name of Amerith and vowed that he would raise and protect her from this day forward.

Raghnall felt the pull of the water calling him back home and he often wondered if it would be safer raising his daughter back home where his parents could have a hand in her raising, but the small voice in the back of his mind always seemed to convince him that staying put was the best thing for him to do. But the longer he stayed put the greater the water’s pull seemed to become while the small voice seemed to fade into the background, and so one day he packed up his daughter and made the long journey back to his home lands.

Once home, he assumed that it would be simple to fall back into his old lifestyle to once again become a simple fisher but it just was not the case. Within just a few days he could feel the electricity building within him, and the small voice was once again whispering to him about returning to the land where lightning flourished where he and his daughter would be much happier and better off. Raghnall tried not to listen, but the voice’s volume only seemed to grow louder with each sunrise until it was the only thing he could hear.

Finally one night with a storm brewing high in the sky, the voice finally got its wish, as Raghnall gathered up his daughter and their few belongings before fleeing back to the Shifting Expanse where he hid himself and his daughter away from prying eyes and the call of the water.
