The Shortbeak, or "Harvester" Talonok
A form of beastclan known for its abnormal height and ungainly stature.
The Shortbeak dwarfs much of its fellow beastkin, rivaling midsize dragons in height, though they are of much lower weight.
Shortbeaks are a secretive and overall nomadic race who tend to live separate from their fellows. That, coupled with their odd physiology, has earned them the secondary name "Harvester", and the role of a bit of a bogeyman in beastclan lore.
The Shortbeaks themselves occasionally lean into these fairytales, but in truth they're no more vicious or likely to carry off children than any other sentient being on Sornieth.
Shortbeaks rarely settle in one place, instead migrating across Sornieth as the seasons change, as warm weather brings along their favoured foods: insects and early, sweet fruits such as strawberries. Shortbeaks do occasionally settle in temperate regions, and will cultivate their own food if so. These settlements are rarely larger than a family's worth, and always hidden away in dense forest.
Both the temporary moveable settlements typical of their species, and the more permanent structures of the aforementioned, are tents intricately woven from brambles, branches, and leaves alike, secured with a unique rope woven from feathers. Said rope is incredibly strong, and the secrets to its crafting coveted by others.

A relatively young talonok shifter who took up the role of nestmother in absence of anyone else who could after the razing of her home, which was the largest of the Shortbeaks' villages.
She hatches the leftover eggs of her flockmates one by one, and tries her best to send them out into the world prepared for whatever life has to throw at them.
- Hatchling Biography
Nora was born into the largest of the Shortbeak settlements, and raised in typical fashion of a young talonok. For her own sake, she was taught to fight and fly the moment she could, and learned the traditional art of weaving soon after.
She didn't know anyone in her village too well, as seemed to be typical of her kind. She often wondered if the loneliness she felt was also typical.
- Adolescent Biography
Nora was the sole named survivor of her village by simple virtue of Not Being There when it was razed. She doesn't even know exactly what group of beings were responsible for the slaughter of her people, so she did the only thing she could do, deciding everyone else was her enemy from that day forward.
She found the communal egg nest was untouched, and devoted herself to saving what she could of her people by keeping them warm and hatching them one by one.
- Adult Biography
Nora took what useful pieces were left of her village and moved to a cave set in the top of the highest mountain she could survive on, transporting "her" eggs there - as many as she could safely carry at a time, in what was many trips - as a last ditch effort to keep them safe from others.
Whoever she hatches stays with her until they are fully fledged, and she's taught them all she can. Then, with one last strong warning about the dangers of the world, she allows her adopted children to leave the nest for good.
