Born from a relationship that was more harmful than loving, Song was always a curiosity. They matched the rich colors of the earth and were as sturdy as the trunks of the trees. The wind always seemed to blow the leaves in their face and the grass seemed to grow taller underneath their claws, and they learned why.
"Never cross your mother, she isn't sane." was her father's warning, and yet, despite all odds, she came across Heng.
The dragonness was wild in the eyes, her smile too wide, too toothy. "My beautiful child, come here."
Song refused once, then again, and at the third time the older imperial lunged to grab her, and Song screamed, the trunk of the tree behind her opening up and swallowing her whole. She panicked, clawing, trying to find a way out, hearing the other leave in her own panic.
It was her father who gently clawed the tree bark away, cradling and comforting her. "We must find you somewhere safe before she finds you again."
