Biography

★★★ Astronomer of the Stardust Clan ★★★
xxxxxxxxxxxx ★★★ Starcatcher, born to the Water Realm, had never seen anything as incredible as underwater stars. Everything from the glimmering reflections far beneath the sea to her home’s own rippled and distorted view of the night sky made the Spiral flip and twirl with joy. One day as a hatchling, Starcatcher had been exploring a cavern in the Fishspine Reef. She had a habit of collecting small shiny objects, and had been scouring the coral reefs for lost artifacts or sunken treasures. Instead, Starcatcher discovered a scintillating starfish roughly the size of a gemstone. Elated, the Spiral hurried back to her birth clan and excitedly showed off her new friend to her parents. The starfish wiggled and squirmed between the Spiral’s talons and slipped away back to the sea. With lightning-quick reflexes, Starcatcher swam after the little fiend and recaptured it, earning the Spiral her name from that day forwards.

Starcatcher developed a habit for hoarding gemstones and crystals—the more it sparkled, the better. There was an endless supply of treasures and sparkly junk on the ocean floor, and Starcatcher spent her days exploring everything the Water Realm had to offer with her starfish friend. She had a difficult time keeping her stash full as different water nymphs and sea creatures often stole from the pile, but Starcatcher made up for it by digging at night, guided by the luminosity of the stars. Unfortunately, it was during this favorite activity of hers that the tragedy struck.

It had happened so fast. Most of her clanmates were in a panic when Starcatcher arrived back. Nearly half of the clan’s hatchlings had been stolen—some were taken to the Ashfall Waste, others were taken to the Sunbeam Ruins, and even more had been swept from under the clan’s noses to the disease-ridden Scarred Wasteland. The tragedy greatly reduced the clan's population, but the sight that really made Starcatcher’s fluttering wings halt mid-flap was her siblings, still and cold. As Water dragons, they could not drown, but the oozing dark liquid surrounding them could not have been water…

The death of her siblings severely damaged something inside Starcatcher. The light with which she once glowed had diminished, turning her life dull and bleak. Suddenly the water that she had spent her whole life in seemed poisonous and felt like tar. She refused to even dip a talon in, and before long her entire hoard of shiny things had been stolen. Her clan recovered from the attack, but Starcatcher never forgot. And then the day came when the stars seemed to twinkle a little brighter, and a newfound urgency lapped at her heart. She would find what that black substance was and destroy it. Something from space? A galactic muck? Something more was beyond the Sea of a Thousand Currents, and Starcatcher was determined to find out what it was. Her journey began when she ran into another Spiral named Stargazer on the shores of the Crystalspine Reaches searching for the meaning of death. Well, that was a loaded search, wasn’t it? Especially since her new familiar, an Aer Phantom, had replaced her starfish friend. She couldn't bear to be around any sea creatures anymore. Nonetheless, the star-speckled Spiral intrigued Starcatcher, and she explored the Arcane Realm with him in a frenzy of magic and knowledge. They spent nearly four months at the Observatory where Starcatcher examined every piece of space rock that hurled towards Sornieth and dissected every liquid that came in contact with stardust. And all at once, just like a shooting star, Starcatcher fell for Stargazer.

Her name had taken on a different meaning during that journey. She was no longer meant to explore the underwater wonders of the Sea of a Thousand Currents, but rather she was destined to raid the universe of its unknown components. Be it stardust or starstuff, the glitter of constellations was far more appealing than a hoard of shiny objects (though that hasn’t stopped Starcatcher from collecting things here and there). When her mate’s morose findings lead them to the Shadow Realm, Starcatcher knew that this was her chance to start anew in a Realm that understood her abilities and desires. With Stargazer by her side, Starcatcher promised to unlock the secrets of space. Their research has shattered boundaries and enlightened other researchers, but something more is at hand between the two galaxy dragons, something dark and dangerous…
