Biography
Monarch Gen 0
Revolution is hard. Recovery is harder. Can the leader of a revolution become a good ruler? Perhaps. In the land of Elyse, one gave it a good try. She got ten years of rule, ten years to undo the damage of centuries, before it was all ripped away. Her entire court, the councilors and judges and generals, the Queen herself, and her king - all gone, in an instant. The bomber was insane, acting alone - a shattered remnant of the bad old days. Leaving only the Queen's sixteen year old daughter to take the throne her mother had won.
"Long live the Queen!" - the crowd roared. Freedom tried to hold back tears. She knew this day was coming, had known for practically her whole life, but it was far too soon. She felt very young, and very alone - and she was both those things. Tragedy had struck, leaving her with a crown she was not supposed to inherent for years, and no one to advise her. She thought back to the words of her old grandmother, said to have a bit of Foresight - "You will face many challenges, but your line will hold strong" - they gave her scarce comfort, but they were all she had.
There were many who wanted to control her. Many who wanted to claim the throne for themselves - which meant they had to deal with her. She was young, but well taught, and her opponents were poorly positioned. So few of the nobility survived the bombing - mostly the old and retired, or the youngsters like herself. The grown nobles who weren't at court for whatever reason were the most dangerous to her, but were also weakened by the upheaval.
She knew that her marriage was important. Her mother had married for love, but her mother had not been Queen when it happened - her life would be very different, and she needed to use every weapon available to her. She needed loyal allies, she needed support, and she needed wise council.
She came to a decision.
A letter went out to the icy crags of the North - while her mother endeared her to the people of Elyse, her lack of traditional noble ties diminished her in the eyes of the nobility, but she could not bring herself to marry someone she could not trust. It was a long shot, but if the Ice Dragons of the North agreed, she would solve many of her problems at once.
