He continued to come around afterward and nowadays they work together to run Ruby’s clinic. ━━ Skills/Languages ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Strengths: Working long hours, Multitasking, Teaching Weaknesses: Delegating, Keeping Track of Time ━━ Biography ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Background Ruby was born into poverty. Her family lived in the slums of a large city and relied on scavenging to survive. Her mother was a servant to a noble, her father a thief. Ruby and her brother, Huloo, would spend their days playing in alleyways or begging on the streets. For the most part, this life was enough, until Ruby’s mum came down with a lethal wasting sickness. When she passed Huloo and Ruby were abandoned, their father unwilling to support the two young children. Even with Ruby staying out longer and longer scavenging, it was barely enough to keep the siblings alive. In the end their efforts were for naught as Huloo caught the same wasting sickness as their mother. Ruby did everything she could, from stealing medicines to praying for help, but was unable to save her brother. With his death she fled the city, too young to find proper work but hopeful that some other city would be better. Ruby’s life in Hewn City wasn’t much better than the one she left behind. She still scavenged for scraps, begged for money, and slept on the streets. She continued this life until a benevolent priest, willing to overlook Ruby’s poverty-stricken origins, offered to take her under their tutelage. The next few years of her new life were spent recovering from her past on the streets while pursuing a basic education. The Lightweaver cloister that took Ruby in practiced healing arts. She dedicated herself to learning these arts under the guidance of priests but ignored their faiths, unwilling to bother with gods that ignored her pleas while on the streets. For years she immersed herself in her studies, acing tests with flying colors and working her way to becoming an expert healer. Upon reaching mastery of the healing arts, Ruby grew restless. Hewn City was full of established healers and Ruby’s skills were relatively unneeded other than an on and off basis. She realized she had to find a place in need of her skills and with that realization came the decision to leave the city that had become her home within the last decade and search for a new clan. The Sanctuarium joyfully welcomed Ruby into its small, but growing, population. Her expertise and help would be necessary for years to come, even if at the time only one or two cases arose each day. Not long after Ruby joined the Sanctuarium a neighboring Harpy population started to terrorize the clan. Dragon began to come in daily with dangerous wounds, many infected with poison that had coated the blades that caused them. One of the frequent visitors was a scout by the name of Rafiel, whose recklessness earned him a permanent bed in Ruby’s clinic. No matter how much Ruby reprimanded him, the contemporary scout managed to return to her care within a few days. Secretly the exhausted female looked forward to those days, his unending chatter during their sessions lightening the burden of being the single experienced healer in the clan. Even after the Harpy Raids were ended Rafiel continued to visit Ruby. He invited her to destress during shared freetimes and flattered Ruby whenever the opportunity arose. The unacknowledged courting was slowly reciprocated by Ruby, the two eventually becoming mates. Current Life Ruby spends most of her time in her clinic, tending to patients and overseeing the work of her coworkers. At the end of each day, she’ll pack up the clinic and head home to her mate, finally able to unwind. |
