HEAD ARCHIVIST

“It matters not how strait the gate,

(Invictus by William Ernest Henley)
the smell of aged parchment hits your nose the moment you enter, creeping rays of early morning illuminating every step you take further into this radiant domain.
you turn your head at the sound of fluttering wings; for a moment you thought that the light blinded you to hallucinate a figure — shaped and molded from its' own brilliance — to present itself before you. but you blink. catch a small, but earnest smile aimed right at you. tala gives a small bow, and her plumes vibrate with her pleasant trills. "welcome. how may I help you?" the founder of the alcove is revered by those who live under her domain and many who encounter her (despite her best protests, since all the praise never fails to fluster her) — and with good reason. her unfailing kindness and patience stem from the harsh time she faced from becoming a coatl, originally having been a fae that was distasteful towards the monotonous mannerisms and preferring the beautiful trills and various ways of expression her new form was capable of. she had faced extreme criticism and mockery from others as she inelegantly stumbled through figuring out her new body and language, and despite her mentor's best attempts at assuaging her insecurities tala still ended up suffering self-doubt that plagued her for years to come. however, those insecurities did help in a way; they were one of the major driving forces behind why tala chose to found the alcove in the first place. she wanted to make a place where any and all are welcome to be as inquisitive as they please without fear of judgment, without anybody's disdain for them not knowing something. a place where one can curl up with a scroll or book, away from the chaos of the world, even if for just a moment. (tala essentially strived for a safe haven that her past self often wished for, in her darker moments when she wanted nothing more than to curl up and sleep forever. she wanted to give someone a place to rest, an opportunity she herself never had. ) with her mate's support, it was an ambitious dream that came to be. she never expected it to amount to the grandiose emporium that it is now, but she doesn't dare complain. the alcove has given second chances at happiness to dragons that are employed there. her hatchlings have a safe place to grow and learn. tala has a place to finally call home, to recover from the shadowed thoughts that haunt her and thrive. it is enough. it is more than what she ever hoped for, and she thanks the lightweaver for being blessed so.
