- can read dragons like an open book and uses this to try and minimize risk to himself and others

caccina’s firstborn, hurried away from the observatory in secret as to not shame her, and raised in private by his father for a few weeks while they tried to figure out what to do.

as it was unwise and unsafe to place him in a foundry or a poorhouse - not even for the risk that his ties to caccina could be found out, but for the places that could lead the kid himself, they eventually decided to take him out of the isles entirely. aydin walked him through the starwood and into the contagion, until he found a groups of ice furtrappers that, based off of overhead conversations, seemed like a free and decent sort, and left him where they’d find him.

rusty was immediately taken in by their company, and brought back to the icelands with them. they were a group of fur-traders, of course, out catching creatures (as all the creatures in the icelands were owned by one noble or another) to sell their furs back home or in the annex. he grew up with them and learned their ways, traveling far throughout sorneith.

as the years went on, dragons leaving and joining and him changing companies - he became pretty respected among woods-dragons, as there is a point of pride and an honor code amidst free-dragons in the icelands - and being older in a place where the living was hard was always respectable

short and stocky, with a shaggy beard and a windworn face. has crinkles around the corners of his eyes from smiling all the time. has a sense of 'wilder-dragons honor', on not trying to cheat dragons, watching their back, etc, since being a trustworthy venture partner in the icelands was important, since a bad season could be your death.

him getting snatched up by the windsinger, tossed aboard a ship, and brought to the wasteland was not expected at all, and he was super freaked out since he didn’t know what was happening.

still had no idea what was happening when he got there, since ivarr obviously couldn’t identify him by sight, even if the windsinger could tell they were related via magic patterns. it took them a little bit but he's obviously arcane and sort of looks like ivarr, and they eventually pulled caccina out of the lair to figure out that they were all related.

cool uncle, so his nieces/nephews like him, and while it is kind of weird being around ivarr/caccina, and he still regularly eats dinner with the redmanes. he lives out in scrimshaw, with, as his main job is doing wood carving on the ships/furniture, as well as leatherwork in the workshop.
