About

The adopted daughter of Mael and Belinda. Amala is a common sight around the city, running errands for the First Five or rushing to and from appointments with her many friends. Despite her busy lifestyle, Amala still makes time to welcome new citizens and visitors, often handing out maps and answering questions about her home.

Story

Amala wasn't born in the clan, but to a lone pair of Skydancers living down the cliffs from the budding clan. When she was young, her parents and sister felt the call of the Stormcatcher and left the young Amala to fend for herself. She tried to survive on her own, but the harsh desert proved to be too much for the young dragon, and she sought shelter at the newly-formed clan.

Amala was welcomed into the clan by Koi, another new arrival. Koi took her to meet Mael and Belinda, and Amala instantly felt a connection to Belinda. The red Guardian took her aside and explained that the young Skydancer was her Charge. Amala didn't know at first what all that entailed, but she took a liking to Belinda, and the two became inseparable. Their bond was almost one of mother and child, and Belinda, along with Mael, raised Amala more than her own parents. Amala loves her adoptive parents with all her heart, and also sees the rest of the First Five as family.

When she was old enough, Amala put the fact that she was always tagging along with the First Five to use. She began carrying a journal around, and making small notes of the day to day happenings of the Rest. She quickly became useful to the First Five as a sort of secretary, and they often asked her to note meetings or things that they needed to get done. As Amala filled her journals, she took them to the budding library to be filed in the clan archives. It was only natural that she would grow close with Amorra, the shy librarian. She would often make small talk with the Nocturne, telling her any little pieces of gossip that she picked up during the day. Amorra gradually opened up to Amala, and the two became close friends, and eventually began to harbor romantic feelings for each other, though neither one has told the other about them.

Amala is often featured in the Compass, the Rest's small newspaper. Eddie, the paper's current events writer, often tags along with her on her errands, hoping to pick up a story or two. She doesn't mind, though she is always sure to shake him off before doing any classified errands. She is also well known among the clan's young dragons, often chatting with guards or asking the retrievers and messengers about their travels. She also considers herself something of a "friend matchmaker," introducing dragons that she thinks will get along well. She easily makes friends with visitors, and receives many letters from her friends abroad.
