A hardbitten, fleaboiled detective that solves the real crimes, the ugly nitty-gritty underbellies that make soft hearts turn and sensitive stomachs tremble.

...Okay, the only actual crimes in her case files are kinds like "The Mysterious Case of Tigris Stole Satin's Compass Again," but if any real ones ever do happen she'll deduct them straight to the truth amid danger and deception before everyone else does. And until then she keeps in top form by writing (which includes solving) noir mysteries.

(Sort of noir... noir that isn't really... a whole new genre of noir, "cozy noir" or "noir fluff," that's an impressive thing to invent a whole new genre.)

All her works are written with unflinching honesty, depicting scenes of graphic violence (like biting a dragon on the nose and then howling with pain over scratched gums) and physical intimacy (like accidental tickling while unworking the knots from a simultaneous narconap).

Her faithful-long suffering-spotter of the obvious assistant is Kilkenny, who she refers to tongue-in-cheek as a conductor of light. Since Petrie does both the noveling and detecting, Kilkenny's assistance comes in the form of rigorous editing and standing nearby to be talked at while Petrie is theorizing-deducing-spotting holes so she doesn't look like a crazy dragon.

Kilkenny and Petrie have been best friends since they were hatchies, when Petrie went into giggling fits over Kilkenny's name and Kilkenny teased Petrie over crushing on dragons with names like Cougar.

Every dead body that shows up in Petrie's books is named a variation of Kenny (just like every writing assignment she ever managed to cram a murder into in school). That's probably the reason Kilkenny insists her name is pronounced Kilk-enny.

Would probably get on well with Calcifer except she can't stop giggling every time he makes that ridiculous fire demon claim, which even his easy temper eventually takes offense to. (Really, if she would just stop snickering—) (Really, to go with fire demon—)

Petrie signed a book so Remy gave her a Pillow of Friendship. It wasn't actually one of her books she signed, but Petrie didn't notice and Remy isn't aware it should matter.
