Personality
The researcher mage wasn’t a stranger to controversy. In fact, he would be pleasantly surprised if, for a solid week, he wasn’t placed under any scrutiny at all. But like the most resilient Arcane mages he stood with, Cijiqi has learned to embrace that scrutiny with a warm smile and a steady tone, a tone in complete resonance with his toymaker facades and in complete dissonance with his experimental methods.

The controversy?
While Wonderstark no longer delves so deeply into Shade studies as a whole, he stands as a reminder of what once was, and he takes the philosophy of ‘know the enemy better than yourself’ quite seriously.
Well, technically with the said enemy being a part of his bloodline he gets to know himself better too, but that’s not something he likes to bring up. After all, pandemonium is sure to ensue if the others realise the Shade mage, of all dragons, is steadily becoming stronger. Eklksk likes how quiet and friendly Wonderstark is compared with many other clans, and he’d rather keep things this way.

He also stands as a reminder of somberer things. While he does not have the impeccable recall of Mistrunner, Zfgfnf is able to access the memories of the dead via dreams and visions simply by handling their possessions: a remnant power of being able to access the memories of his extended family on the Shade-tainted side. As a result, he is also the designated clan undertaker- not for any of his dead clanmates’ bodies, but for the memories they leave behind.
He could have been detached- crueler even- about it, but after having seen his clanmates at their lowest points, he strove to forge his consoling and gentle persona until such became the true nature of his undertaker side.
Because he recognises -perhaps more deeply than most- that Wonderstark still deserves better.
Early Life
His earliest memories were of impaling wires, liquidlogged lungs, and blurred shapes. He couldn’t stay awake for long. He could barely think.
There was only feeling the bone-chilling liquid around him and watching the dark shapes beyond the glass until one day they stopped showing up.

Then came Echo.
She was scrounging abandoned laboratories- she told him at bedtime again and again- and was more than surprised to find him, a sickly, mold-smothered tundra hatchling left in a vat of something viscous.
Naturally, she teleported him out, then teleported both of them to Mistrunner’s den when it became clear that removing him from the vat somehow made his condition worse.
Apparently, it took a sleepless week for the healer to even stabilise him, but the result was worth it.

While all hatchlings in the clan were meant to be cared for by Corona, Echo insisted on raising him herself. He wouldn’t have it any other way- though he was never the most dexterous or tech-savvy, he enjoyed learning how she worked her machines in the workshop and even managed to try his own hand at tinkering every now and again. And when Echo herself was woefully incompetent at hatchling raising, her entire gang was behind her to care for him.

But the dreams began sooner than he liked to think they did.
The first time he woke up convinced that he had murdered an innocent dragon with his bare claws, he screamed and ran straight to Echo. She hugged him tight until morning came, whispering in his ear that it was simply a nightmare- one that will pass and never hurt him again.
But a few days later there came a second dream. Then a third, a fourth, a fifth- persisting right along through his adolescence. Each brought about a different appearance, a different mindset. Sometimes, the dreams would bring a calming and hopeful mindset if not for their sense of underlying guilt and paranoia. Other times, they flipped his worldview upside-down with desolate and sadistic acts. Two things were for certain- the dreams were not leaving anytime soon, and they often involved something only mentioned in hushed voices by other dragons.
The Shade.

Insomniac from his very realistic night terrors, he approached the one dragon central to his investigation: the spellweaver Exeter, clan patriarch and head researcher for Shade studies. It didn’t take long to figure out what was wrong. He was tainted; the Shade’s tendrils were rooted in his very core. But while his magical prowess was weak from its consumption, unlike most Shadetouched his condition was completely stable.

A proposition was made. Exeter would take the young tundra under his wing as both test subject and lab assistant. In turn, a remedy would be made to suppress- or even cure- his dreams. Nobody else would be the wiser to his condition.
So despite Echo’s resentment, he accepted. Though his lack of magical prowess and weak memories hindered him, he somehow managed to grow into a fine scholar with some limited ability to command his magical malady. And Exeter kept his promise. After suffering through experiments day after day, he was branded with a series of glyphs under his fur that softened the weight of his dreams.

There were side effects, of course. The tundra might as well as have traded his curse for another. A softer, more welcome curse that landed him as the undertaker of the clan, but still a curse nonetheless. Still, dying did not rip at his psyche as murder did. He was able to face the world with a soft smile and sympathetic attitude. He was fine.

Current
When the Fear of Broken Promises killed Exeter, his spell effects died with him. It was the one downside to autoempowered spells, yet the fae still rushed to buy everyone time without a second thought about consequences. And yet by doing so, he doomed the clan- doomed Echo.
The tundra doesn’t think he’ll ever forgive the archmage for doing so.

He barely got a wink of sleep following the lair’s destruction as he followed Hollow around to ensure the mental welfare of the clan. With deaths came the need to find the items of the fallen, the need to process and treasure their last memories, the need to comfort those left behind. And despite protests, he took up the Shade researcher mantle left behind by Exeter. It was the main reason for the destruction of the clan, yes, but it was also the reason it came to be in the first place, after all, and he was the only one left adept with the knowledge.
But even after things calmed, for him there was no chance to rest. Whenever he slept, the dreams struck back more vivid and depersonalising as ever, leaving him more and more exhausted upon waking until he felt like he was on the brink of insanity.
He was finally back to investigating his bloodline, but this time he was alone.

After compiling his dreams over many weeks, employing spies to seek out locations in his dreams, and digging into symbiote theories, he came to a conclusion. His dreams came from others’ memories- from his family members across all Shade-stained generations tracing back to a single fae. And yet his powers were weak- weak compared even to all his nephews and nieces. There was something wrong with him specifically: something in his blood infected him with power, but something else suppressed its full effects and prevented him from being able to take total control.
Luckily he had just the clanmates to help.
DeDQkIK.png
It did not take much convincing to get Cascade and Eliza to soulclone him such that the symbiote in him was devoid of its suppressor. Granted, the process wasn’t easy- his tissue samples easily deteriorated or became masses of overgrowth if the conditions were not just right, and the success of test transfer processes kept fluctuating with different amounts of Shade. Eventually, however, they were able to create an empty vessel down in Cascade’s Icefield laboratory that wasn’t instinctively possessed by Shade remnants.
The tundra set off with nobody but the two researchers that evening. He returned with pale eyes, darker wings, and his tawny fur bleached stark white.

There were side effects of course, just as there have always been. He could now control who’s memories to flick through while sleeping or whether or not to flick through them at all. Magic -or antimagic, however one sees it- has never come so easily to him. Even his memory was better.
But in turn, whispers now always clouded the edges of his hearing, especially during long nights. While others could say his name, recording it down always ends up causing it to become warped and voided. Most curiously of all, while his new body could bear his soul, it did not stop growing and changing- like it was trying to pull beyond his breed’s genetic code, not just his own- until he was larger and near-unrecognisable as a tundra.
Still, he remained humble the best he could. Even as others chastised him, he was able to face the world with a soft smile and sympathetic attitude. He had never felt finer.

Murdered 5/12/2016, final passing 27/4/2017
Honorary co-founder of Echo's Gang, father figure and mentor to Haematite the mason

The constructor and first architect of Clan Wonderstark, after experiencing several talonok attacks in his childhood the ridgeback took it upon himself to begin hollowing out the clan's first lair: a radioactive chalcedony mountain in Crystalspine Reaches. With his efforts, the lair quickly expanded into the mountain, protecting everyone from the elements and any other Beastclan attacks.
Before the clan's migration to Starwood Strand, the ridgeback planned out locations, materials, and room placements for the new lair, talking to each clanmate for their preferences before traveling across Starfall Isles in search of rare, valuable construction materials. On his quest, he resided temporarily with Clan Saturn before returning to begin the foundations of the new lair.

Sinner was a very grouchy and sassy dragon with a fiery temper whom never left the lair if not required to. With his snappy mouth that was quick to nickname others based on their most obvious trait, he made enemies as often as friends. Nevertheless, he was a very kind ridgeback at heart and was often there to lend an ear or a hand for his associates whenever they needed it and was just as quick to remind others of being courteous.

Lost in Starwood Strand 2/4/2017, death by fatigue --/4/2017
Son of Jade the alchemist, friend of all non-draconics of Clan Wonderstark, mentor to Alice the familiar keeper

The first familiar keeper of the clan, Nucifera tasked himself with befriending and helping to cleanse all familiars that take shelter from Shade remnants in Sorneith as well as partnering them up with other dragons in the clan to encourage teamwork. Like his long-gone twin Cerasus, Nucifera was skilled in oneiromancy, often walking into the nightmares of distressed dragons and familiars alike to help them and make sure they ended up having a good night's sleep.

Nucifera was a pure-hearted dragon who believed that everyone has redeeming qualities and could be a potential friend. Where other pearlcatchers, in general, gossipped behind backs and kept their pearls to themselves at all times, Nucifera had no words but encouragement and allowed other dragons to paw over his pearl anytime for comfort. Nucifera's firmness in integrity often ended up causing himself harm as he let himself be pushed around too often. However, that did not mean he had no firmness in handling out-of-control familiars: the pearlcatcher wrestled with the resident Amethyst King before five times and had won every time.

Victim to hypothermia 1/5/17, final passing 11/5/17
Mentor to Iolite the lorekeeper, mother to Lustre the wordsmith, founder of the library

The first wordsmith and lorekeeper, Nacreous was quick to furnish what was once her den into the clan's library with her tendency to hoard both books and scrolls of tales, poems, and records. Most of Nacreous's gifts were literary -she was a natural poet and songwriter and an even greater storyteller, frequently adding her own works to the library's collection- though she had the accomplishment of creating the curse that prevented any wayward future lorekeepers from revealing anything valuable.
As the dragon responsible for writing records about the rest of her clanmates, Nacreous took her job seriously, never judging anyone for their past actions and always keeping their most valued secrets safe.

Despite being a dragon of many talents, Nacreous was one of the most melancholy and anxious dragons in the clan. Being a dull-coated coatl, she was often looked down upon or feared by other coatls since her childhood, eventually causing her to run away from her parents' clan. Discrimination took a toll on Nacreous's character, causing her to always expect others to belittle her.
Perhaps it wasn't very surprising that the coatl liked to spend her time alone. Dragons who visited the library never stayed for long, fearing that they might end up in the brunt of an anger lash. It wasn't until the arrival of Iolite that Nacreous had to learn to become more amicable for the sake of her new apprentice, eventually causing other book loving dragons to linger for longer and form an unofficial library guild.

Soul swallowed by Fear of Promises 12/6/17
Mother to twins Cerasus and Nucifera, mentor to Nergui the alchemist

The first alchemist of Clan Wonderstark, Jade quickly showed herself to have a talent for boiling things down and creating new substances and items out of them. Though she stuck strictly to the recipes that have been created already instead of discovering new ones, she was quick and skilled in producing items without defect while never putting herself in danger.

Despite being romantic with a heart for the most impractical of ideas, Jade was soon mentally scarred after being heavily abused by her lover. After the dispute was over, she continued to love both of her children with all her life but began unleashing her frustration on any and all familiars that wandered near her den, kidnapping them and cooking them alive. When Nucifera finally found out, he was quick to forsake his mother and choose his friends instead. Becoming even more desolate, Jade turned to kidnapping and torturing a young hatchling for her experiments to become her perfect daughter. Perhaps it was merciful for her to finally pass away before her legacy was discovered.

Died of fever 8/8/17, final passing 20/8/17
Second daughter of Exeter and Peleides, triplet alongside Lepidus and Lucius

Lotus was a hatchling of many potentials whose dreams could never have come to fruition. Having emerged from her egg sick and frail, she was nevertheless a bright spirit, a diplomat amongst her disagreeing brothers with a pure heart and a gift for storytelling and spinning her magic into reality. The dispute amongst her siblings that eventually led her to wander into freezing rain and catch a fever was too unfortunate.

Kidnapped and killed by assassins 8/9/17, final passing 15/9/17
Mentor and father of Kintsugi the metalsmith

The first metalsmith and jester of Clan Wonderstark, Milkshake was the joy of the clan with his infectious laughter and acute, unpredictable sense of humour. He gave up his first position for his daughter, who was much more passionate about forging than he. Being a close friend to Echo and best friends with Sinner, he was a very welcome member of the Echo gang and the emotional pillar of the group.

Being very much a joy-loving dragon, Milkshake made it his mission to stay in the presence of optimistic lairmates all the time to catch and spread their joy, although in doing so he ended up excluding and actively avoiding pessimists even when he should be helping them. With that, he also hardly grasped any serious situations fully until the Echo gang started to fall apart. His mission was very much successful, however, and everyone misses him dearly.

Suicide via self-controlled overgrowth of own meningitis 31/10/17
Adopted daughter of Onyx the hunter and Variolae the messenger, mentor of Nyrin the medium

Being born on Hallow's Eve bound to a guide spirit, Virgil, granted Beatrix a strong association with spirits and sealed her fate to become the first medium of Clan Wonderstark. Being kindhearted and willing to do whatever it took to help the most helpless of clients, she eventually made the ultimate sacrifice creating and opening a portal in the lair that grants determined spirits a chance to return to life.

Beatrix was eccentric, to say the least: despite taking up an empathic role, her carried plague, a form of meningitis, prevented her from truly feeling any empathy towards other lifeforms at all. As a result, Beatrix used to come off as creepy and ominous, undeterred by the discomfort and judgement of others to talk openly with Virgil or other spirits, and with others about the spirit world or stare blankly at other dragons before telling warnings of future deaths. That being said, this was offset by her fearless, persistent and optimistic attitude that rendered her to become a stable friend for spirits dealing with trauma.

Used as hostage, killed by assassins 19/11/17
Son of Nacreous the wordsmith, mate to Wyte the assassin, adoptive father to Wyntre the lorekeeper

The third wordsmith of Clan Wonderstark, Lustre had been a silent child by choice since being brought, cold and shivering, into the lair by his soon-to-pass-away mother: it has been known that the only dragons he would ever speak to were Wyte and Wyntre. After being apprenticed to the second wordsmith Iolite, he was never seen out of the library again until he was kidnapped, working tirelessly day and night to write the many volumes of stories and records for the clan.

Though he was aloof and often unreasonably bitter towards strangers, enough interactions with Lustre revealed a curious, eager and oddly naive dragon with a morally strong heart that locked away and fiercely defended every secret that he learned. Even though he was considered unlucky by other coatls due to his dull coat, unlike his mother he hardly cared about such superstitions as he set to work everyday.
Wyte wrote:

Killed by assassins 19/11/17
Mate of Lustre the wordsmith, adoptive father to Wyntre the lorekeeper

Seemingly just a hard-working hunter of the Gatherer's Guild, it surprised just about everyone when it was revealed that the nervous, skittish, stammering Wyte was an assassin. Well, in retrospect it probably wasn't too surprising. Despite his seeming lack of confidence, Wyte often revealed himself to be as persistent and resourceful in reaching any of his goals as the best survivors in the Scarred Wasteland, even if it did take a while to adjust to any new living spaces.

Even though he wasn't a plague carrier like many other red-eyed dragons, Wyte's inner ability to nullify had probably saved him a few times. A better actor than he himself anticipated, his mostly ruthless persona Scythe was confident, shrewd, and enough of a character change to not draw the attention of his other lairmates- he even took mostly food as payment to not arouse suspicion. However Wyte, at his heart, had too many dragons he cared for- even his job was to distract himself from being the cause of Sinner's incident.
It was just enough for viler mercernaries to catch on.

Killed by mercenaries 10/2/18
Adopted daughter of Keferia the sentry, honourary member of the Gatherer's Guild

The second messenger of Clan Wonderstark, Nimbus was an optimistic, hardy dragon who never let the omens associated with naturally dull coatl feathers define her- and by extension never defined others by their appearances. Bold and adaptable, she quickly picked up what Variolae taught her about riding winds, though unlike her predecessor she tended to sidetrack while on her way home.
