Biography
"There's more to us than meets the eye." |
Although she would never let on what she truly was, Flamefeather always knew. Something had always been just- off. And although she had found her Charge the second she hatched, she set off on a search of her own. North, to the Viridian Labyrinth. Always, she had felt a call to its lush forests and trickling streams, gorgeous landscapes that would never be seen in her home of the Ashfall Waste. On her travels, Flamefeather had encountered a Tundra, alone in the woods eating from the vegetation. Its fur shone a looping pattern of green, pink, and orange, its wings a perfect match for the butterflies and moth that fluttered among the trees. She called out to it, and when it raised itself to look at her, she was momentarily taken aback by its bright orange eyes, glowing the color of fire. The Tundra sniffed for a moment and then smiled at her. In a warm, motherly voice, it said, "You smell like a friendship." Flamefeather, although confused at this as she was quite certain she had never met this dragon before in her life, knew better of Tundras than to question it. "I'm Acacia," the Tundra continued. "And you are?" "Flamefeather, of the Clan of Endless Warmth. I've come up here looking for, uh-" "Your charge?" "No, not that. I found him a long time ago. I don't really know what I'm looking for. Just- something, you know? For whatever reason, I've always felt like if I just came to the Labyrinth, I'd find the answers I needed." Acacia smiled. "And I'm sure you'll find them. So, the Clan of Endless Warmth? You're from the Ashfall Waste then?" The Guardian nodded. "I actually was down there recently. Ambassador trip. A few months ago. And I, uh-" Acacia's easy smile vanished. "And you what?" Flamefeather prodded. The Tundra sighed. "We came across this Guardian on the hunt for his Charge. He hadn't found them yet, but you know, things happen." She glanced away, eyes following the fluttering insects among the green leaves. "Even though I left the egg behind there, my Clan still didn't want me anymore- yet, I couldn't leave the Labyrinth behind to stay with him. Even without my old family, it's still my home." She looked back at Flamefeather. "Sometimes I wonder how that egg's doing. I hope whatever hatchling came out of it is doing well and has found the lasting love I never could." By the time they had said their goodbyes and Flamefeather had begun her return to her homeland of ash and smoke, she realized something- for the first time, she felt complete. |
