Crystal
____________
Crystal knew solitude. In fact, she knew it very, very well.
She spent most of her life alone and purposeless. She was a Guardian with no charge, nothing to protect, no one to protect. Not even a fellow dragon to spend her days with. Crystal was not a very social dragon, but she was miserable. Until one fateful day, she was rummaging around in the forests in hope of some food as her stores were getting low. There, she saw a centaur firing arrows at a young baby dragon. A similar but grown up dragon was by the hatchling's side, but seemed to be... The Guardian shuddered at the thought. No, they were just knocked out, that was all. The hatchling was injured, and the sight of such a cute, tiny thing in pain made her blood boil. Something came over Crystal, because she stepped right into the fray with angry cyan eyes reminiscent of ice, and scratched the centaur with all her might. In her rage, the Centaur stood no chance and was downed immediately. The hatchling, though now safe, was still crying. It looked like they were concerned for their parent. She didn't know much of CPR, or healing magic, but hopefully she knew enough. Focusing herself, she approached the fallen dragon and muttered what she remembered reading about healing magic. It didn't appear to be enough, which wasn't unexpected with her inexperience, so she did her best to perform CPR instead. After a few fateful, terror-filled minutes, the dragon coughed and woke up. Crystal could now see it was a male. "Wh-what happened?" The mother coughed. "Aegis, you're wounded! Are you all right?" The hatchling could barely speak, but managed to respond with, "Saved! Niwce dragon lady!" "Nice dragon lady?" She seemed confused. "What are you talking abo-" It was then she noticed Crystal. "-Oh?" "Hello madame, my apologies for in the intrusion, but you and your hatchling were injured and I couldn't just stand by. I defeated the Centaur attacking you." Crystal responded as calmly as possible, as she internally panicked. The mother was also a Guardian, and she knew how protective her kind usually was, especially with their children. But the mother wasn't angry. In fact, she smiled and seemed to have tears in her eyes. "Then that means I owe you my life. I wasn't sure I was going to make it, I was teaching my son how to forage for food when we were attacked out of nowhere. I should have been more careful." She said, before asking, "May I know our savior's name?" Savior...the word felt good on her tongue. "Crystal. My name is Crystal." She responded. "Crystal...what a nice name." The mother hummed. "I didn't manage to forage much, but I did get a few berries, and I'm assuming that's why you were here as well? We owe you our lives, so it's the least we can do." She shook her head. "It's all right, I found plenty of plants, and you two look like you need it. I'm just happy to help." And she was, she felt a rush of energy and purpose like never before. The other Guardian smiled in gratitude. "Thank you very much, Crystal. We must be getting home now, but we are forever in your debt. Come find us if you ever need anything, anything at all." "I shall." Crystal responded gratefully, before readying her wings to fly off. It wasn't long until they both reached their respective lairs, and although Crystal was alone, she finally felt like she was whole. "Aegis...the name refers to protection, doesn't it?" She mused to herself. "And if I have the power to defend the helpless, shouldn't I use it?" She thought back to the events from earlier today, and decided that yes, she should definitely use it. "Shield of Aegis, that sounds like a nice clan name." She said to herself. Shields were for protection, and Aegis was the name of the hatchling she saved, and he was the one who struck the chord in her, so she felt it best to honor him. She wasn't sure what the future would hold, but for the first time in a long time, Crystal was happy. Lore by IcyCrystal Bio Template by TrickyLai |
