Biography

Baskerville

Member of the Royal Guard
When Baskerville was little more than a newborn, his birth clan began an arduous migration across Sornieth in search of a new home. His family was starving - everyone was starving, from the youngest hatchling to the eldest progenitor; this journey was the final hope for his dying clan.

As he grew, he watched countless loved ones fall to the famine. Soon, it was only himself and a handful of others who still held some hope of a new beginning. It became apparent that Baskerville’s positive, loyal nature was one of the last pieces holding the unit together; he was always the first to offer his support and the last to back down from a friend’s side.

However, even the seemingly undying flame of the Wildclaw’s optimism was dwindling by the time their ever-decreasing ranks reached the border of The Salainen. The leaders were bickering endlessly, and their followers were becoming increasingly impatient. Baskerville’s efforts to calm the fighting only earned him more pain, as he was cast out of his beloved clan and left upon the edge of the forest, alone. He was swiftly detected by a Salainen border patrol, and upon explaining his situation they reluctantly offered to take him to the capital, suggesting that their master may have a use for him. Deciding the offer was the only one that didn’t involve a certain demise, Baskerville agreed and followed the patrol back to The Garrison in Salainengrove.

Roxo certainly didn’t seem overly impressed by the half-starved, gangly specimen presented to him by his underlings, but decided to give the young Wildclaw a chance to join his ranks. Assigned as an apprentice to Lyric, his training commenced almost immediately. He put all of his effort into being an effective warrior, and certainly had the physical capability for the role, but his personality was too easy-going and friendly to be any scarier than a hissing kitten. Pitted against the bloodthirsty, aggressive Narcissus in his final exam, he never stood a chance.

Although Roxo had no intention of letting the defeated dragon stay within The Salainen, King Apollo witnessed the brawl and admired Baskerville’s loyalty and spirit. Before the Wildclaw could even attempt to flee Salainengrove, he was intercepted by Lyric and the Royal Guard, who told him that his life would be spared if he defected from The Garrison’s side to join them instead. Although sceptical at first - it seemed that every dragon in that twisted forest was pretty intent on killing him, after all - he accepted the offer, hoping to the heavens that he’d finally find a place to settle and collect his thoughts.

Ushered to a sleepy outpost by the Veredia Lake, he found himself in the village of Veradeen, where the King occasionally came to spend his summers or hide when tensions brewed within the capital. The quiet, idyllic setting of the small lakeside settlement appealed to Baskerville far more than the bustling, bloodstained streets of Salainengrove, and he made fast friends with the locals and his fellow guards. Known for being a light-hearted yet reliable ally, it was no surprise that he was popular with his peers. His duties were far more relaxed than he imagined; Veradeen was unknown the almost the entirety of The Salainen, concealed by magic spells and the forest. Despite a rocky start to life, everything was beginning to get better.

At last, he’d found a place to call home.
