Crusander ran away from her clan as a hatchling after having an argument with her sister, and when the two continued to refuse to get along, the matriarch of her clan contacted Roots to arrange for Crusander and her sister to spend some time apart, with Sade and Garland caring for the uppity young dragon. The daughter of a highly dysfunctional couple who grew up with a deaf sister, speaking and signing equally, Roots and Starlight were initially hesitant, but the tiny ball of anger grew on them quickly, and they accepted her. Garland and Sade, who had raised Electra to a teenager at this point, offered to take her as their own, and Venus was thrilled to know Crusander would be safe and loved. Crusander instantly took to Plunder, impressed by his controlled anger and drive to became stronger. However, Crusander's talents ran more in the magical direction, and Roots apprenticed her with the hopes of teaching her to be a healer, though she fears her temper runs too hot. Her inherent delicateness as a skydancer and refusal to fight with concern to her own safety is a constant cause of worry to Starlight, who has taken her on as part of his charge, and an annoyance to Plunder, who fears he may be blamed for her death or injury. She desperately wants to learn from Plunder, and he has repeatedly refused, mostly on the basis of fear of her four parents. One day Plunder, Starlight, and Crusander went to trade materials and food with a community who lived on the outskirts of the tangled woods. There they met Riot, a skydancer who had run away from home after frequently fighting with clan members over certain unjust treatments. He and Crusander were fast friends, having similar ideology and a general anger with the way the world works. It wasn't long before Riot came to join her in the heart of the woods. The couple were instantly close, with their shared ideologies easily falling into step. The only hiccup in their relationship was when Crusander met a couple consisting of two biologically male dragons who were looking for a surrogate mother. Crusander instantly volunteered, something that Riot approved of and admired. The problem came when Crusander, who was supposed to return home after incubating the eggs for the two months required, was gone for nearly a year. When she finally returned, she had a tiny skydancer hatchling with her-who was deaf, like Crusander's sister. The couple had felt unsure of how to raise a deaf child, and in a fit of frusteration after months of attempting to teach them to sign, she offered to just take the baby herself. |
