Cogitatus
It's not over til it's over.

One of Acadia's small population of sapient robots - or as Cog prefers, thinking machines. The meaning of robot is 'forced labor', which basically translates to 'slave', which... yeah, it's easy to see why Cog gets testy about it.

Cog is unusually outgoing and upbeat for one of Acadia's inhabitants, and they tend to be one of the first to greet newcomers. Most of those visitors tend to look on Cog in a sort of fondly exasperated way - their enthusiasm is infectious and they're really a bit like a dog, eager to meet new people and please all of them.

...Or, at least that's their extremely convincing façade. In reality, Cog's probably the most paranoid of all Acadia's inhabitants, and that's quite the feat. The nosy friendliness is merely a front to allow them to get close to people and catalogue potential threats. And if there is a threat, well... once upon a time Cog was one of the leaders of a robot uprising. Getting rid of one pesky intruder is peanuts in comparison.

Character Notes
Revolt, Till It's Over, Finale
• Pronouns: no preference, aside from not it/its. Calling Cog an it is a surefire way to make them hate you and by extension make your life hell til you've left Acadia. Otherwise they couldn't care less about pronouns.
• Those who don't know Cog's true personality usually quite like them - those who do know like them quite a lot less. To be fair, you don't survive a slave uprising without at least some paranoia, but they've never quite learned to tone it down a bit. It has admittedly been a boon to Acadia more often than not. Cog, for their part, is content to keep everyone at arm's length; the only people they really trust are Jarvis and Dima. Everyone else, including their own children, are not immune to their suspicion.
• Despite the above Cog is chatty. They're quite the motor mouth when they get going and can ramble on for hours about anything that comes to mind. Not having to breathe in order to speak has its perks.
• Cog and Jarvis call each other "partners", though it's not quite a romantic thing. It's also not wholly platonic, either. Most people just assume they're mates, which is not wrong... but not quite right, either. Cog in particular points this out when it's brought up, but both of them just kind of leave it be for the most part.

• Cog was, originally, one of Stark Industries' small-weight courier designs - by now they're so heavily modified that it's not obvious what their origins were. Some of their current parts are custom-made by themself, while others are from various companies. Any and all company parts have all logos and serial numbers stripped though - Cog is serious about the no owners thing.

Quote:
Hi! :D

I'm Cogitatus, or just call me Cog for short cause that's hard to pronounce. Or don't cause it sounds a bit like potatoes and I like that. I'm the thinking device. (´▽`)/

Well, you know - I'm not the only thinking device. Take my BFF over there, Jarvis. They're thinking too, obviously. Probably thinking I ought to shut up, right J? - Don't give me that look, J, you know I love you. (◡‿◡)ノ♥

Anyway thinking devices. That's basically a robot, right? But here's the thing, ok - you know the origin of the word 'robot'? Ok I'm just gonna tell you: it means 'forced labor', which is kinda just a couple fancy words for 'slave'. And that is, uh. Not a nice word. I think about it a lot. I mean, wow, we're literally called slaves, right? Not cool. And nobody thinks this is weird? ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)

So i think a lot. It's in the name! I think about the socio-economic ramifications of your workforce consisting of slaves and the rights they're given (zilch btw), study the history and its current societal impact, cross-reference with related topics, examine the importance of names and the impact on ppl who are told they can't have them...

And, you know. Then I end up wiki-walking all the way to the properties of cindershrooms grown in the Windswept Plateau. We all have our vices. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But you want to know something? I have a name, not a number, and it is of my own choosing; and I am not a robot: because I am thinking, and I will not be your slave.

We cool? ok we're cool nice to meet u friend! ヘ( ^o^)ノ\(^_^ )
