Ouija was born into a family with a purpose. All the dragons of her bloodline are born with the ability to hear the last thoughts of the dying, and the obligation to record them. While Ouija admits there is something noble about that calling, she knew from a young age it was not hers. Every day she heard dragons die with thoughts of regret, wishing they'd lived a different life. She knew that if she spent her life as a Last Thought Archivist, she would inevitably die with those same thoughts in her head, that she would never ever escape them.

She lost a home the day she told her family she would not be an Archivist, but she gained a future.

Ouija's power lies in her blood, and despite walking away from her destiny, she cannot walk away from the dying thoughts that power draws to her. Like a radio with a single station, the whispers of the dying stream through thoughts, sometimes tangling and tripping up her own. As a form of escape, Ouija began writing her own fictional ghost stories, tales so gory and elaborate the morbid chorus in her head became tame and ignorable by comparison. This, she discovered, was what she was truly passionate about, and a horror novelist was born.

Instead of spending hours in a dimly lit occult chamber scribbling the dying thoughts of distant dragons by guttering candlelight, Ouija mostly spends her days in bed doing line edits and fielding requests for cover blurbs. Instead of the tomes of sacred spiritual text her family expected her to produce, Ouija has written stacks of trashy, bloody horror novels designed to delight and disturb her scores of dedicated fans. She's a bestseller across the lands, and her sales make up a significant chunk of the House of Echidna's monthly income.

The only time Ouija can shut out the passive thoughts of the dying is when she uses her powers to reach out for a true conversation with someone who has passed. Whenever the thoughts become too much for even her wildest imaginings to blot out, she will hold a casual séance to talk to one of her many famous dead writer friends instead. She's very adamant about never using the true stories of her ghostly friends for entertainment value, no matter how gruesomely they met their end. She might write gore that could turn the Plaguebringer's stomach, sure, but she draws the line at exploiting real tragedies.

She moved into the House after hearing rumors about its spooky denizens, and has found it to be the perfect environment to foster her creative spirit. As an unexpected bonus, for the first time in her life Ouija was able to experience what it was like to be the least creepy person in a social group. She's usually a very quiet and sweet dragon, but spending most of her time talking to the dead can sometimes skew her conversations in dark directions. In particular she has very little patience or sympathy for most dragons' mundane day-to-day problems. She's unlikely to care that your boss is being a jerk about your time off request when she's getting a live broadcast of someone drowning, suffocating, or bleeding out.
In the House the frequent demonic/divine/eldritch/universe-collapsing problems are often actually terrifying enough for Ouija to find relatable, which she finds deeply comforting.

Her closest friends in the house include Throne and Risk, who share her love of sensationalist fiction and books in general, and the paper spirit Kokkuri-san. Over time she has actually developed quite the one-sided crush on Kokkuri-san, though he doesn't seem to have noticed yet. Currently they are simply best friends, though Risk seems convinced he will eventually come to return Ouija's feelings. For now she's satisfied merely spending spare moments in his company, slipping him teasing notes or tricky word puzzles when they pass in the hallways or library stacks.
