While other members of the Hollowguard would seem a more apt choice for Captain, Envy won the spot by way of pure and unadulterated skill. Where others in the unit are overpowering through sheer size and strength, Envy possesses a certain careful refinement that makes him a much better choice, a true leader. As a strategist, he is capable of making incredibly difficult decisions on the fly, and his own moral compass is so in tune with that of the clan's leadership that his quick-time judgements are seldom disputed, if ever. In a clan where peace is the emphasis, it is crucial for what little military might exists to be diligent and precise—just like Envy. Thunder Hollow can rest easy knowing that such a steadfast dragon coordinates the actions of its most powerful members.

Though Envy may be one of Thunder Hollow's most upstanding members, he spent much of his early life as a common criminal in and around the Tempest Spire. Energetic and restless, he used his clever mind and able claws on whatever enterprise seemed most exciting; usually, crime was what piqued his interest. Local gangs eagerly vied for his attention and took full advantage of his wide repertoire of illicit skills whenever he deigned to grace them with his allegiance. His current moniker, Envy, is a remnant of the power struggles that defined these early years.

All of this came to a screeching halt when a war between rival factions left him bloodied, broken, and bereft his precious antennae. For all of his life, he had taken for granted the ability to read the thoughts and feelings of those around him; losing this skill in such close conjunction to the tremendous pain he suffered was enough of a catalyst for him to reevaluate his life choices.

In his guilt-fueled determination to flee the Shifting Expanse, he stumbled across a fledgeling Thunder Hollow. While he initially only intended to stay for as long as it took his damaged wings to heal enough for a flight across the Sea, he found himself becoming more and more intrigued by the simple, peaceful folk who had come to call the territory their home. Even when he had recovered enough to continue on, he found himself struggling to make up his mind about leaving. In the end, he decided to stay—and redeem himself by helping the young clan find its footing.
