Rancor
— Death Doesn't Point North —

Spirits are either dumb or mean. Thankfully for Rancor, his sister, Resentment, dealt with the mean ones, leaving the dumb ones for him. He doubted they could find their way out of a wet paper bag, much less to their deity. Nonetheless, he made it his job to guide and protect the ~~dumb~~ lost souls. Being in the minority who could even see the spirits, Rancor figured if he didn't do it, no one else would (especially not Resentment). Besides it was pitiful to watch the spirits hover helplessly, trying to communicate with those who couldn't even perceive their presence. Or worse, be set upon by some of the mean ones. Of course, Rancor always appreciates a little gift from family or clan members. It makes things a bit easier when he wants to pull his scales out in frustration because a spirit went in the wrong direction again.

• Though he typically keeps to himself, stories have built up around Rancor, some even claiming he's a spirit as well.
• Rancor has a natural aura about him which draws in spirits, for good or for ill.
• While he'd prefer to leave the fighting to Resentment, he's more than capable of handling himself against nasty spirits and creatures.
• He's pretty good at figuring out which deity a spirit needs to go to, but he has made mistakes.
