B I O G R A P H Y

______ Commotion. A lot of it, and right outside her door, no less. Couldn’t her clanmates just give her five minutes of rest?! Phoenix walked out of her room to make an attempt at shutting everyone up, but found her voice drowned even more than usual. Admitting defeat, she attempted to listen to what the ruckus was all about. What she heard was beyond anything she could have ever expected. “They said they killed The Shade!” “No no no, not The Shade, a shadeling, a weaker one.” “She brought it here!” “it’s an omen, we’re doomed!” “Before you know it, they’ll be running free everywhere!”

______ ”EVERYONE, SHUT UP!”

______ A voice boomed from the front. It was a coatl, covered in dirt, dust, and blood, possibly her own. She raised her head and confirmed that a shadeling had made a visit, and that she was its killer. A small pearlcatcher stood up and backed this claim. Before more panic set in, the coatl reminded the clan that the shadeling was dead, and that she, a shade-touched mortal, had brought its demise. If she could kill one, who’s to say she couldn’t kill more? This coatl had big ambitions. She wanted to end The Shade and its children, once and for all. For real, not just sitting around saying they’ll figure it out one day, but now, while there’s proof that they can be destroyed. Her request? A team. This one was small and alone, but who knows what the rest are like, so she inquired for backup. A small coalition that could work together to destroy these menaces one by one with little problem.

______ ”I’ll do it. I’ll join.”

______ Phoenix raised her voice a bit as everyone turned to stare at her. “What? If it’ll get me away from the noise and boredom here I’ll gladly join. Besides, it could give me an actual reason to be designing all these magic traps… not that I didn’t have a reason already.”

______ The day after, and she was already working hard to design ways to lure and trap shadelings. She discovered that they were attracted to the remnants of their fallen brethren, such as those found in the tablets, and devised strategies and magics to make use of such an attraction. Phoenix was herself shade-touched, as many are in the clan, and so she used this shade-touched magic to form traps that were by the shade, for the shade. By the time they had found their final member of the team, Phoenix was ready for her first hunt.
