______ Shiru could hear her heart beating hard in her chest. She was wide eyed, both terrified and in awe. Standing in a clearing next to a small pearlcatcher, she looked upon a corpse. It was pitch black, and even in the night, it was far darker than anything she had ever seen before. It had no set shape or form, and yet it looked… familiar. In a sudden wave of energy, the corpse spasmed and expanded. Shiru stepped back in fear, and the blackness turned into a mist. It whirled around the coatl and pearlcatcher, before finally forcing its way into the arrows slung along Shiru’s side. She had just killed a shadeling.

______ Frozen in place, Shiru contemplated what just happened. She had seen movement in the forest, heading towards a pearlcatcher from her clan, and decided to trail it, as it did not seem friendly. It was not getting any slower as it was getting closer, and as soon as it appeared in the clearing, she pounced. Flaming arrows, claws, teeth, and finally a great blast of fire, tainted black because she had been shade-touched since birth. She heard a terrible screeching when the flame touched the demon, and it fell to the ground, unmoving. Shiru and the pearlcatcher stared at one another in shock. They needed to inform the others.
