______ Ruelle was born into a long ancestry of violent and uncaring dragons. The only reason that the dragons of her ancestry did breed was to continue their long and powerful history. All hatchlings in her family were to start training a couple days after they were born and shown only the minimum amount needed of care. Her family wasn’t the type to coddle or to love, rather to grow and fester and conquer. Ruelle was no exception to this family rule. As soon as she was a couple days old, she was training with her parents. They knew that hatchlings couldn’t handle the caliber of training the adults of the family could, so often she had to watch fights. She would be watching them, dictating notes in her head to know how to fight.

Her family was feared, so much so that many dragons didn’t think of them as their own dragonkind. Instead, they saw them as demons, as monsters, as things. Dragons embellished stories about them, making them more dangerous than they already were. Fear could turn into anger, and that anger was taken out on her family. One day while she was training with her parents as a young adult in their family compound, they heard a close by uproar. Ruelle’s family was very territorial and any sign of trouble close to their compound was met with swift fighting. The whole family realized, much to their horror, that hundreds of dragons were coming towards them. All of them looked ready to kill.

By the end of the battle, many of her family had been wiped out or severely injured. In the madness of it all, Ruelle was separated from her parents and the rest of her family. She had blood dripping down her, some of her own and some of the enemy’s. She walked along the forest in a complete daze. She barely registered what was going on except for the blood on her. That would serve as a reminder of what her family endured even if she couldn’t think straight in that moment. As time went on and it became exhausting to keep walking. She was found by a nearby clan which made her ready to fight despite her severely weakened state. Before she could, she fainted. The last thing she saw was a bright blue dragon above her, looking at her with concern.

The next few months were a bit of a blur for her. The clan she was apart of was very different from her family compound. Dragons cared for each other, the hatchlings she did see were playing, and that one bright blue dragon became an integral part of her life. She later learned that the name of this dragon was Ghost. Ghost was so soft natured, the complete opposite of her. Ruelle prided herself in anger. She had every right to be angry, her family was murdered! She had every right to be wild and ferocious. But there was something about Ghost that made her stop all that momentarily.

Ghost was just so kind to her. It made her mellow out for some reason. He gave her a reason to relax in such a new place as well as forget her trauma for a while. They struck up an odd friendship, the both of them getting close. Ruelle didn’t really have friends and didn’t trust most people with other than her first name, but Ghost got a few steps further. Their friendship turned to romantic love and it wasn’t long before they were mates. Ruelle had never thought she could have such positive emotions about anyone, but Ghost was the exception in her life.
