The Abomination, Prophet of the Antiverse |
A Fate Worse Than Death
From the shadows of The Hewn City, a gaping maw of blackness spews forth horrors that stalk the crumbling streets. This eerie place is a curse on the Sunbeam Ruins, and those brave or foolish enough to venture in risk falling victim to the void that lays at the centre of the ruins. It is the source of the lingering gloom, and gateway to the Antiverse - a world of shadows and monsters that exists beyond our own dimension. Those who pass through the void are irrevocably altered, as the alien entities within wrench atoms apart and rebuild them in their own twisted image. Those who return are known as shade spawn. Hideous to look upon, their mutated bodies and damaged minds make them dangerous. The menace of the shade spawn varies with each individual. Some retain fragments of their former personalities, although they often fall into madness as they try to live with their monstrous new forms. Despair then gives way to anger and violence, and all too quickly they become lost to evil. Shambling ghouls, the spawn haunt the dingy corners of the city ruins without purpose or leadership. Until now. An adventurous professor of archaeology recently went missing whilst searching for lost members of an exploration team. Drawn by strange, disconnected voices, the spiral was lured into the gateway and transported to the Antiverse. Suspended in a void so black that it seemed a physical presence, the spiral felt the darkness pressing against his very bones. Around him the dragon could sense other beings, colossal giants that defied logic. He instinctively knew that if he were to gaze upon these Gods, these creatures of space and time, that it would destroy him, so he kept his head down, staring into a pit of infinity. The Precursors probed every corner of the dragon's mind. They removed his memories and experiences, clawing out his very essence in a ritual necessary to purify the 'vessel'. The glow of his golden eyes was left in spite, to fuel the petty feud between two of the draconic deities that currently ruled the spiral's home realm.

"To think those wyrms actually believe that the Shade was born of their primitive world...the arrogance!" "Let them argue and accuse amongst themselves, their struggle for dominance blinds them from the truth. In time they will learn the true origin of all things, and then they will die, wallowing in their own insignificance." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A viscous fluid, pulsating with malevolence, wound its way around the dragon's body. The spiral twisted and fought against unseen bonds as a river of darkness flowed down his screaming throat, and the soul that had inhabited his body fled, leaving behind a husk of meat and muscle. The presence of the Shade corrupted the remaining flesh; turning the skin hard and metallic, and causing bulbous, staring eyes to sprout along the length of his body. Finally, a crown of flapping wings was fused to his head, and a halo of glowing runes circled above in a strange and unreadable text. In rasping voices of grated steel The Precursors announced that a herald had been born, and revealed his true name: Kaiceph the Abomination, Prophet of the Antiverse. As the Shade animated his body, Kaiceph opened every hideous eye on his face and body, all of them watchful, waiting for instruction. The Gods would send back their harbinger, who was to shepherd the shade spawn and instruct them on the D’thyrin, the unholy bible of The Precursors. Through preaching, Kaiceph will martial his kin until the time of The Great Awakening, when the void between dimensions is stable enough for the Gods to travel through. Until then, The Precursors must leave their teachings to the heralds, who will spread the word of their Gods throughout Sornieth, undermining the weak and pathetic deities that only temporarily rule over the lands... |
