The clan has been doing research on Jewelry Box Fae for a long time, but Zircon was the first one the clan took in that wasn't silver. In contrast to her silver counterparts who are content to simply exist, Zircon actually shows signs of intelligence. She'll move out of the way if she is in someone's path, without the dragon having to move her. She also seems to have muscle memory of some common routines she is put through by researchers. She gravitates toward anything shiny, and will become as hard to move as Spinel if pushed toward the lair entrance during a sandstorm. This indicates that, however primitive, she does have a mind of her own.

These are small behaviors that indicate that there is more to Jewelry Box Fae than just a strange transformation. They are actual creatures, not just magical objects, however inanimate they may be.
