Skysweeper

Backstory: Skysweeper had big fan of the flight races when she was a hatchling. Her parents took her to see the annual Master’s Flight Competition held to determine who was the fastest dragon in Sornieth. The Master’s Flight Competition had one unique tradition that required all of its competitors to wear one string around their tail and throw them out to their fans after the race. Now, Zeya competed and won first place in the competition Skysweeper had went to see. Most of the competitors wore extravagant ribbons with frills and many colors. Zeya, however, got a simple string with small jiggling bells attached to it. When the competition had ceased, Zeya threw her string into the sea of fans and Skysweeper caught it. Since that day, Skysweeper knew she wanted to be a fast flyer just like Zeya. Although, there was one thing that stood in the way of Skysweeper’s goal: her misshapen left wing and small right wing. Because of these deformities, none of the competition winning flyers were willing to take Skysweeper in as an apprentice and many of them laughed at the notion that dragon with such terrible looking wings would try to become a fast flyer. Fortunately for Skysweeper, her parents were diplomats for the VeroKitty Clan and they often visited the Aquafire Clan. When Skysweeper reached adolescence, she asked her parents if she could go with them to see what it is like to be a diplomat. Her parents were overjoyed to hear that Skysweeper was finally starting to consider other occupations she would actually might be capable of doing. They gladly took Skysweeper to the Aquafire Clan. However, Skysweeper had plans of her own. As soon as Skysweeper’s parents looked away the imperial snuck off to find Zeya. Even though Skysweeper didn’t have a trainer she had practiced by herself for hours on end each day. When the young imperial found Zeya, she showed the pearlcatcher the takeoff and gliding skills she had worked so hard to improve. The imperial asked Zeya if she could be her apprentice and Zeya agreed to teach the hatchling. Now, Zeya knew Skysweeper would have some obvious setbacks because of her wings, but she knew just by seeing the sheer determination in Skysweeper’s eyes that Skysweeper would put in much more effort than any other apprentice. Skysweeper’s parents couldn’t believe that their daughter had become Zeya’s apprentice. They gladly allowed Skysweeper to stay in the Aquafire Clan while she trained with Zeya. Skysweeper loved training under Zeya’s wing, but the young dragon was terrified of letting Zeya down. Skysweeper trained for hours with Zeya, but made very little progress. The imperial dragon seemed unfazed by the the little progress through. She was still happy and smiling during the day. However when no one was around, Skysweeper would cry herself to sleep when she was alone in her bedroom where no one could hear her because she knew deep down that she would never be a great fast flyer like Zeya. The imperial dragon didn’t realize that someone did hear her cry every night and that someone was Leonardo. Leonardo’s room was right next to Skysweeper’s so it hadn’t been exactly hard for the coatl dragon to hear the imperial weeping. Now, Leonardo had a crush on Skysweeper for a long time and he had been in love with her for even longer. However, the coatl dragon had dared to confess his feeling to Skysweeper because he was afraid she saw him only as a friend just Fiona (his former secret crush and best friend). Hearing Skysweeper cry broke his heart. Leonardo desperately wanted to help Skysweeper so he began to research healing treatment that could possibly fix Skysweeper’s wings. Leonardo’s mother, Callora, told her son that there were rogue witches (who called themselves the Sisters of the Twisted Root) in the Viridian Labyrinth that may be able to provide a remedy that could make Skysweeper’s wings strong. Although, Callora warned Leonardo that the witches always charged a high price for their products. Leonardo wasn’t afraid of spending a lot of money so he flew off to the Viridian Labyrinth the next day. What the coatl dragon didn’t realize was that Sisters of the Twisted Root didn’t work for treasure or gems. In exchange for their magic ooze, the witches wanted fifty years of Leonardo’s life. Much to the witches’s surprise, Leonardo didn’t hesitate to give such a large chunk of his life for Skysweeper. After buying the ooze, Leonardo aged very quickly. His feathers grew dull and his bones became brittle, but the coatl dragon managed to make the long journey back to the Aquafire Clan. Although, Leonardo collapsed from exhaustion once he set foot in the Aquafire Clan’s lair. His family members, Fiona and Skysweeper all rushed to help Leonardo up and once they saw his face they were shocked by how old he had become. They brought Leonardo Neo and Maruna, the Aquafire Clan’s healers. Although, Leonardo assured his family and friends that their was nothing they could do and that he had already made his decision. After a few week spent recovering, Leonardo mixed the magical ooze he had gotten from the witches with his paints and then, began to a skin for Skysweeper. Since Skysweeper’s wings were deformed, there weren’t many skins that fit her. However, Leonardo had made a custom skin to fit Skysweeper. When Skysweeper put the skin on her wings, they instantly grew and recorrected their shape. Skysweeper cried when she saw her new wings and kissed Leonardo (to his utter shock). Leonardo had never told Skysweeper what had caused him to age so quickly, but she knew without a doubt in her mind that Leonardo had gone to Sisters of the Twisted Root. Skysweeper and all of the other members of the Aquafire Clan went to the Sisters of the Twisted Root and gave the witches three days of their lives to Leonardo’s youth back. On Leonardo’s birthday the entire clan surprised him by giving the coatl dragon back his youth. Not long after that, Skysweeper began winning flight competitions and gave Zeya a run for her money. Zeya is still currently the fastestflyer out there, but the pearlcatcher is content with the fact that Skysweeper will replace her once she retires.

Personality: Skysweeper’s head is always in the clouds (both literally and metaphorically). The imperial dragon is very imaginative and determined. Skysweeper is a very good listener and loves to hear dragons share their tales of their own adventures. Although, Skysweeper has very strong opinions and never lets any dragons make doubt her abilities. The imperial dragon still wears and treasures Zeya’s string from the Master’s Flight Competition.

Soul Mate: Leonardo

Familiar: Skysweeper caught Flutter while she was hunting for insects. The imperial dragon couldn’t bring herself to harm the moth because one of its wings was broken, which had made the it so easy to catch. Skysweeper made a splint for the small creature’s wing and fed it daily. When Flutter fully recovered, the moth chose to stay with Skysweeper. Flutter provides the imperial dragon with wordless comfort whenever the dragon is feeling down.
