Biography
■
muscat vengeance witch | ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ |
There is a fine line between letting one's head rule one's heart and letting one's heart rule one's head. Muscat is all too familiar with it, having walked such a line for most of his life. Too much emotion, and he loses himself. Too much logic, and the same may happen. The balance is delicate and terrifying both.
Still, he walks it.
Unlike most witches, he was not born with an innate magic. Instead, he trained himself to become a receptacle for the mysterious. He learned to steady his head and heart alike when he invited the magic in, and with the help of many tutors, he gradually learned to shape magic into concrete form. It was a slow process, a draining one, but he committed nonetheless. Witches were prestigious in his homelands, and he wanted nothing more than to show how capable a witch he could be.
He was born without magic and overshadowed for it. He wanted to prove them wrong.
Unfortunately, he did, in the worst way. When he had finally graduated to the level of master, capable of manipulating elemental forces without breaking a sweat, he returned home, only to find his clan in the middle of a raging war over territory lines. His newfound skills allowed him to help on the front lines, and he did so without a second thought, not realizing how much death and despair he would be forced to witness. Dragons he knew and loved died before his eyes, or fell pleading at their enemy's feet. Dragons he fought against did the same. They were all mortal, all angry, all afraid.
The heady mix of emotions overruled Muscat's careful balance. Every spell was more inflamed than the last, and every ally that fell gave Muscat new fuel. He had to protect his home. He had the tools, and he had more than enough reason. He wanted his clan to thrive, and he wanted revenge for those that had fallen.
Perhaps that is why he returned once he was struck down. The clan feared he was not himself, but an abomination, that he would fuse with other Imperials who had laid down their lives. Muscat was very much alive, though, and the same as before, with the exception of one thing: his magic.
Since then, he has left his home behind, unwilling to live among them when they fear him so. He has spent a great deal of time wandering, tracing magic across Sornieth, and fighting to keep balance between his heart and his head. He died on the battlefield with revenge on his mind, and he supposes that is why his elemental skills are now lost, and his magic is solely emotional. Vengeance of all kinds calls to him, a sickly sweet allure that he struggles to resist. If he can gain control, he can manipulate it, stoke it, ease it, hide it away. But if it gains control, he could become its vessel, and perhaps become an abomination indeed.
He trusts his mate, though, to keep him grounded. Cahaya sees the oaths of the world with clear eyes, and they seem to have placed great faith in Muscat's promise to keep them safe from harm. With that knowledge, that trust, Muscat can go forth with a greater sense of ease.
