While his parents bear witness to the vows and vengeance of the world, laid out in shimmering golden strings, Radvile has been blessed with a different sight. Had he not overheard them talking about those fragile threads one night when he was supposed to be asleep, he might have assumed everyone could see as he did.

But no one else seems to bear witness to the glittering light that comes from hope.

It's a beautiful thing, to watch hope flutter into view. Often, it takes the shape of a halo, radiating from behind a dragon's head. When it's a little flicker, the tiniest hope that things will change for the better, it can cast a room in a warm glow. When it's a fierce, raging hope, though, Radvile has found himself forced to shield his eyes. That is true power, he thinks, to believe so firmly, to trust so absolutely, that ones hopes will come to fruition.

Is it enough to actually bring about change on its own, though? He's sure scholars have debated the question for a great many years. As he sees it, though, it plays a vital role. Without hope, there is no change. Not now, not ever.
