Peace Dove » "I definitely value the little things a lot more than I once did. Take Pen for example. She's just a white pigeon, but we call them doves. I think that's sweet, and although there are a billion dragons in Sornieth, she recognizes me."

»Origin.
Born, Shame Halfheart, to a coatl clan on the coast of the Shifting Expanse, Shame was a pale hatchling, quickly deemed an omen by his superstitious family. For his entire life, he grew up with less food than the rest, and fowl looks cast over him until one night not long ago. The fishing nets drew in less meat and the fields yielded less crop. Summer storms threatened to flood their caves and the distant lightning farm harbored even more storms to come before the end of the season. It was an easy decision for them. The child with poor pale feathers was to blame. He was an omen, and his attitude proved no less. They had a guardian do it, he was the strongest, and it would be quick and bloodless, then they would throw the body over the cliffs as they were supposed to. Out of sight, out of mind.
Shame Halfheart died that night. He didn’t even feel it. Then he awoke in a pile of leaflitter, somewhere within the Tangled Wood. The timeline was wonky in his mind. First dream, then death, then awoken. The dream was… dreamy, but not a dream. Somehow, he knows it really happened. There was no reason he should be in the Tangled Wood unless what had happened in the dream was real.

“Beyond my vision was endless, distant grey mountains and a ceiling of bedrock. The ground was grey and out of focus, and though I didn’t sink into it, it felt like standing in the sludge on the bottom of a lake. In front of me stood a guardian, her form blurring with the sick greys and greens around us. She spoke soft, but rattling, and my intrusive dream thoughts wanted to run my hands through her form, curious if she was made of some thick frozen mist. She grabbed my wrist and it felt startlingly real. She talked in an assuring tone, told me I was dead, but said I could live again if I wanted to. I quickly said I did, then asked a little sheepishly if I would keep my memories. She gave me a repugnant look and her voice turned stern.

She said I could if I wanted to, but I couldn’t tell anyone this happened to me, but to always remember that it did, no matter how much it felt like a dream. I gave her such a tiny nod that I’m only slightly sure that I even agreed to her terms, then I woke up in the leaves. From then on I was "Sham Half," and I have to meet with her once a month--that was another one of her terms I think. And... there was a crick in my neck, I’ve always had it. Sometimes it’s worse than usual, don’t know why. But now do you believe me?”

Shaw are you okay????
Do you know why you were given the choice to return to the world of the living? Where did you go after? Why do you carry an olive branch?
41566591p.png Shaw shook his head.
"No idea why I was given a second chance at life. Guess I got lucky." He said righting his posture. He still stood guard at the gate, facing the fields across from the Enclave.
"After I woke up in the wilderness of the Tangledwood, I just wandered around for a while until I came to this settlement. I needed a place to stay and the dragons here welcomed me. The olive branch is actually a basil sprig! Aside from just smelling nice, the basil plant is a symbol of the Enclave, embordered on our armor and flags."
After some thought, he nodded his head slowly. "I'm alright."
