The Plague Flight was nearing the end of a feudal period that saw the entire region divided into more than thirty states which were constantly shifting borders and disappearing while larger ones swallowed them or new ones sprang forth.

Toska was a knight of a small city-state in the North, near the Cragpillars that form the border of the Plague Flight and Earth Flight. They had survived since before the beginning of the Burning Period. The land Toska's nation resided in was insignificant, so they believed, having little in the way of resources, and being so close to the Earth Flight which was notorious for its isolationism. If one of the larger Southern or Western clans attacked, it might invoke the ire of the Earth Kingdoms, which, despite their disinterest in war and conquest, could destroy a comparatively puny Plague clan with ease.

Toska's nation believed itself to be safe. What it didn't know was that the three largest Plague Nations each wanted to unify the Flight under their chosen Pontifex and would stop at nothing to obtain every square inch of land which could possibly reveal an advantage.

They stood no chance. They were taken swiftly and with little bloodshed, simply because there were far too few of them to bleed the battlefield red. But Toska would not die in vain, not to those murderous monsters. With the sword of his enemy buried in his gut, his final words were an oath to never let those who stole his homeland rest, not in life or in death.
