Empires fall. It's a simple truth, a historic fact that litters both the overworld and underworld with ruins and relics. Aurora has devoted herself to discovering the why of these destructions, reasons both great and small that have made the mightiest crumble.

She did not intend, nor wish, to be an eye witness to such an event. The Fall of Sairas haunts her as much as it does the other survivors, guilt presses heavily upon her shoulders, pinning her wings to the ground as she scrambles across her notes and documents scattered across the floor of her new home.

For all her knowledge she could not put it into practice, couldn't spot the signs she studied so feverishly since youth to know the danger that lingered on the horizon. An ally turned enemy within a heartbeat.

In the quiet evenings her eyes seek the horizon, squinting against the setting sun for an army cresting in the distance. Sleep doesn't come to her on those evenings, no matter how still she lies or how close she tucks herself against her mate.
